I am so old that I can remember a time when there were no computer games, so mine is very dull by today's standards.

It must have been that table tennis thing with each player controlling a bar that went up and down the opposite sides of the TV screen.

No doubt he does remember, but I am guessing that your father was in his teens when the first computer games started to become available.

I cannot think of anything that was about in the late 60s, which is about as far back as I can trust my memory.

Binatone console from 1977 and playing pong with the little paddle was my first game, but I prefer to travel forwards in time 7 years to my first personal computer in 1984 where I played Horace Goes Skiing on the Sinclair Spectrum 48k (hugely popular machine in the UK).

Aha! But which Atari system do you own? There were several, and several versions of each. My best friend owns both the Atari 2600 original "heavy-sixer" and the newer, woodgrain model.

That was Super Mario Bros. 2, aka "Mario's Dream". It is one of the only cases I can think of where Nintendo did an official rom hack of one of their own games. The real Super Mario Bros. 2 was released in the US as "Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels" in Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES. The US release was a sprite-hacked (and slightly modified) version of Doki Doki Panic!, a Famicom Disc System game.
Fun game.
