Friday the 13th started in the 13th century, when the Pope agreed with the King of France to get rid of the Knights Templar, who were created by the church in the first place, because they were getting too powerful. The church rounded up all known mebers of the Templar and burn them at the stake as heretics. This happened on friday the thirteenth. After this date it was considered unlucky and mre people added to it by saying unlucky stuff happens. but yeah, thats how the myth started, if anyone was interested to know. and if i spoiled anyones dreams of something more interesting, then sorry

Finally someone who isn't a moron. However, it happened in 1307 - the 14th century. Also, not all of them were burned alive - I know that the Grand Master went through that, as well as a few others. The rest of them, however, were tortured and then later executed.

It's sad how, out of everyone who replied, you were the only person who knew the history behind the day.

There are many, many superstitions about Friday and the 13th being unlucky. Many events in Christianity happened on a Friday (Good Friday, the Temple of Solomon was destroyed, Adam & Eve ate the forbidden fruit, etc.) Also, in Rome, Friday was their execution day.

As for the number 13 being considered unlucky, there were 13 people at the last supper, with one of them betraying Jesus, there was a gathering of 12 Norse gods and Loki ended up crashing their party and caused a riot, and the Egyptians believed that life was lived in 12 stages - the 13th stage was death. Even today there are some cultures who believe that having only 13 people at a party is extremely bad luck & every party-goer will die.

:) Fun fact: it all started on October 13, 1307 - it's almost the 700th anniversary.

I don't believe this kind of bull anyway, believing these sorts of things will only limit your life.

Friday the 13th was the day when most of the knights templar (the guardians of the holy grail/ Some of the best trained warriors during the crusades) were all slaughtered. Only a few of the Knights Templar managed to escape their demise by fleeing. I dont remember which country they all fled too.

yups... i wanna know the answer too... but the only logical reason i know is that whn u break a mirror, ur mum would definitely pwn u and thats the oni bad luck there seems to be other than someone stepping on the mirror remains....
