well, i agree that learning more is ideal. but how do you measure that? the colleges can't really determine that through an interview. and in terms of an entrance exam, isn't that the standardized tests (ie. ACT, SAT, and AP) are for? they give you these tests to show them how well you'll do in their college and what you can offer them.

i think if you're concerned that you're not getting into ivys or big schools because of your grades, you shouldn't fret because those schools are not necessarily the best for everyone. you can find the right college that will suit your needs. =)

I think how much you learn is important, not nessisarily grades, although grades to tell how much you learned but, it can be biased. Not everybody learns the same way and neither to they show how much they learned about something the same way..so while a standardized test may be good for one, might not be good for another person, so grades aren't always the best. Plus, many people just cram study for tests to pass them but they dont' really retain the information, and yet they may have gotten a good grade in the class, but does this mean they really learned? Grades are important to show how much you learned, but I think grades should be based on a variety of ways, and not just standardized test. Also, I agree that interviews should be a part of getting into college an not just based on sat scores. - Einstein did horrible in school (his grades sucked) but he went on to become one of the most influential people in history, and was very smart.

Well, colleges need a form of measure. And the grades that you get are the indication of what you have learned/applied. If they let you enter college based on your personality/atiitude, you will never survive.

I think grades and how much you learn are both important. With both of these you will have options, and options give us control over our lives.

how much you learn is more important...but I also think it is important that you can PROVE you learned something by being able to pass that knowledge along in some way, such as a test...HOW you test it is a comlpetely different question (don't even get me started on whats wrong with SATs and GREs)...

Studying IS important..... And to PROVE that you understand what you are doing in class are your grades.... As much as I hate it or you hate it,grades are important. It gives healthy competition among students and of course, the student with the best grades goes to the best school. You can talk about how much you learn all day and how much friends you got but it ain't going to prove anything.

Grades are only important to further your studies. Life is simple - just follow this logic:
good grades => more choices in universities => more choices in courses available/eligable => more choices in career.

Parent's mentality :- Good Grade = Good School = Good Career = MONEY!

Learning/going to school if FUN. The only thing u hate is actually EXAM.

The trick is to understand what was being taught in class not revision at home. If u pay attention, half the information is already retained. then u don't have to burn the midnight oil one week before exam

Secondly is to have a study group. This is really helpfull for assignments. all of u can share research material & u gets different point of views on the subjecs/topics discussed. Yes it is hard to co-ordinate people but it is really worth it.

Finally - so what if the results are not as good as u expect it to be. if u want better grades, put in more effort or get advice from someone. Don't just give up.
Or u can satisfied with average grades. I'm satisfied as long as i'm above average grade. Eg. Full marks for the paper is 100%, passing mark is 50% then i'm happy to get 60-70%

Don't worry over grades - it is more important to understand & applied it in work later.
