imagine this scenario:

newbie makes thread about... cheese
he/she doesn't know that there already is a thread somewhere about cheese and doesn't know that they can search to check if there already is one

poster comes along and either:

a.] politely enlightens the newbie that there already is a thread about cheese and that normal procedure is to check beforehand using the search to avoid duplicate threads
b.] posts abuse like "YOU FAIL AT LIFE! GET OFF THE INTERNETZ! gawd didn't you know there's already a thread about cheese, why don't you just go and search for it before making one you retard!!!"

now the majority of posters here go for option b.]
i feel sorry for anyone unfortunate enough to make the mistake
stop being so over dramatic
you can't really categorize making a duplicate thread into FAILURE
lol

I agree with the fact that people go for B. I have no idea why they like saying FAIL so much.
(Rest of post is directed at those B choosers)
If someone is new here, why not be nice? You make the rest of the community seem rude.

Is it really necessary to go FAIL in your post? What kind of post is that? If you must say so, why not try and help them out?

If you are frustrated with the amount of people making duplicate threads, don't scream at them. Go punch your pillow or something. Going, "REPORTED~" isn't that nice either. Do you know how embarrassing it is for a thread starter to see that? It makes them want to leave the community.

Just because you're a veteran here, doesn't give you the rights to call someone who is new here a "dumbass". People who insult another for making a mistake are just as low as flamers.

The obvious solution is to lurk moar before posting.

I'm usually polite, unless the poster has been making the same "mistake" OVER AND OVER.
