The piano is a great starter instrument. once you learn how to play the piano, it'll be easier to learn other instruments partly because, they way the keys are, you have a great visual of the distance between each note. it also makes a great tool for learning music theory, which i think you might want to at least look into if you want to be a musician. Trust me, I went on to learn guitar, violin and harp and it also helped my singing.^^ good luck.

Totally agree with twidget. Piano really is the best foundation instrument. I've played it for nearly 15 years now, and also gone on to learn the cello.

It is usually a bit easier to begin learning younger, because children's hands are more flexible, but 13 is a great age too, and don't be put off how hard it might seem when you try to coordinate both hands. It's almost like learning to use a keyboard or playing games. Your finges will get quicker and more supple with time and practice. Don't be put off by having to learn music theory - it makes learning your favourite songs so much easier.

Please ignore all those comments that said it's easy or not difficult at all. Nothing in this world is easy without you putting in effort. I'm a great fan of classical music too - don't be misled by its "boring/stuffy/old people" image, classical really is far more satisfying and enduring than easy-listening pop songs. Radio-friendly stuff you listen today won't be around when you're my age, but I can guarantee you'll be listening to the classical stuff you first heard many years ago.

Whatever happens, just try to get a teacher who loves music and teaching, not just someone who's dead-set on pushing all their students towards yearly exams or getting 100% accuracy. Trust me, grades and exams aren't the main thing when learning music - just do it for yourself and your own enjoyment. Someone who can teach you how to really listen is an asset too, not just teach the notes but like a chef explaining how the different ingredients are put together to make a good meal. Take things at your own pace, don't compare yourself to others, practice hard but not too hard or else you might injure your hands, and just have fun!

p.s. Go watch Nodame Cantabile for inspiration! ^^

its kinda easy but at time its crazy hard
my teacher always had to modify my songs and make it easier because i sucked XP
if you practice rally hard you can become really good at it
...i know this girl in my class who did piano for 2 years and is really good....twice as good as me and it did it for 5-6 years (i quitted though)
anyways GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

It's not that hard, but it's not that easy. I learned how to play the piano on my own, but it took me years. I still can't play like a professional, but I know the basics and stuff.
