i think a lot of sunako's appeal comes from her violet eyes.

im not too fond of the dudes though, they need to get over themselves, asap.

its similar to OHSHC in the sense that there's a group of supposed "hot" bishonen boys with tons of fangirls who fawn over them. there are definite moments that made me reminiscent of OHSHC but there are major differences in character styles, not only in the artwork but also just attitudes. In OHSHC its pretty easy to fall in love with all the host club members, with their quirky attitudes but big sensitive hearts underneath the gorgeous exterior of their appearances. but in yamato, the guys are at times very conceited and dont have distinct personalities. i honestly still dont know all their names. On top of that, they're drawn EXTREMELY femininely, which i find a major turn off. But looking past that, the anime itself is still a lot of fun. it has a very unique storyline- and beyond the comical aspects, there's also a bit of a dark side to it.

all in all, i'd recommend watching it!

i love sunako! her chibi form is so kawaiiii! ^_^ and when she gets pissed or something she turns into this hot elegant beautiful girl :)
i like kyouhei and Takenaga but not a big fan of ranmaru and yuki.
I'm alot farther than the anime, cuz I've read the manga (wallflower) up to I think 9?

btw, on cr, it's only up to 10, but 11 came out a few days ago. eek. I watched it already. you can see it on youtube or dl at animesuki or wherever

It's really funny, and they're making fun of Prince anime more than playing into it imo. In fact, I'd almost go as far as to say it's a parody of OHSHC, all be it very indirect (excessive bishonen, tomboy girl, roses). Not sure if that was what the manga was like put its cetainly the impression I'm getting so far.

Except it having a bunch of hot guys being drooled over I dont really find many similarities with OHSHC. Sure they are trying to make a girl beautiful and ladylike... but that wasn't the point of Ouran. That happened in like 2 minutes in the first episode of Ouran. Remarkable differences are...
1. Their all poor, living together and trying to pay the rent :P
2. Sunako isnt a tomboy, she's considered an ugly girl mostly because of her lack of confidence as well as not taking care of her appearance. Haruhi is easily a beautiful girl as well as a pretty boy haha. She's just more interested in studying then her appearance with no confidence problem.
3. They dont all fawn over girls and try to impress them. Kyouhei doesn't really appreciate the attention and pushes away girls. He seems to find his beauty a curse.

As for likable characters... I'll agree they dont have the likability factor of Ouran. Ouran was designed to have a type of guy for each type of girl. Here they're just pretty boys with no real distinct personnality... sort of. Because when you look at it, Kyouhei is definetly different, Takenaga (i dont know if im spelling that right) is more the relationship type with Noi. The red haired guy is more of the mmm host club type lol flirty with girls and such. and then the other one is just... bland lol he looks like a girl doll. The series isnt going for the distinct personnalities to fit for every type in a boyband/ouran manner so I think it's fine that way

I like it that way. There are just too many shoujo series where they have totally likable guys for every girl (even though thats the point). Yamato makes it seem more real-life to me. Im not saying its a bad thing if you watch a series for the hot guys but I just seem to be the only one that gets tired of creators thinking of their target audience as "horny little teenagers" or just using the guys as a way to draw in more people. I find it slightly offensive that many series that are classified as shounen have deeper story lines and not as many beautiful members of the opposite sex than shoujo. Trying to hint at something? Maybe?

Unlike Ouran (which I quit watching after episode two), Yamato was able to pull me in with an interesting story. I love the character Sanako, Im actually interested to see if they turn her into a "pretty girl" ::no spoilers please xP::, and I love the running gag of Sanako's bloody nose and chibi form (even though it guess predicatable). All around good series and something I would even recommend to a guy.

I love this anime though I fell in love with the manga first(what a difference in names...haha). This makes me laugh so much and I love Sunako's chibi form a lot...hehe.

I don't have a favorite character but I am rooting for SunakoxKyouhei!

Argh. Don't you hate when you make a long post and you submit it and it doesn't work. You find out you weren't logged in and your post is lost.

Anyway, I think Meowsa nailed it. They're not a bunch of guys, one for every taste. They're just four good looking guys who deal with it differently. One managed to get a girlfriend. One is a straight-up man whore. The other two see it as a curse. It's been all about kyouhei and sunako up until now. There's not really any character development or focus on the other guys yet.

I'm not sure if it's something they're going to tackle later or not, but sunako's view of kyouhei is just as superficial as that guy's view of her. She won't even be in the same room with him when he's too "bright". I really feel bad for good looking people like kyouhei and myself. Don't hate us cause we're beautiful.

*is blinded by bubbles brightness*

I hadn't realised that the other doll like guy viewed it as a curse too. Now that you mention it I remember several times in the anime where it's so. ^_^ So he's not as bland as i thought.

Yeah, he hated having to wear the dress. Unfortunately those were his only real lines the whole series besides a few, "I'm so scared!".

I still kinda like him though...despite him being my least favorite of the boys. I thought him and the cooking in the last episode was funny.
