me and bokchoi had a chat in the irc about keeping crunchyroll safe from getting shut down. like the anime on youtube getting taken off for example. we think it's importaint to keep cr from the eyes of any 'official' kinda peeps who would try to close cr.

i think it'd be a good idea to have cr only be spread by word of mouth, but have a rule not to link to it. i'm not sure what else to do, but i think that'd keep it on the down low enough that it's not seen by any 'officials'.

i think this is pertty importaint so i'd like to know what everyone thinks. please discuss.

(ps: bokchoi, tell me if i put any words in your mouth just now :p )

Someone put the site on StumbleUpon, which is how I found it, so we can expect people to be comming though like that. Seeing as there is no control over Stumble there could always be a lot of people finding it.

EDIT: I just noticed that shinji has updated the cr points appearance

i've been thinking about this a lot, and i think i'll probably take down some of the high profile anime like eva and cowboy bebop...everyone's seen those anyway! =P one of my goals is to have cr be an archive of EVERYTHING, but sometimes it's not possible in this world. we'll see though~~!

if cr grows big enough, the "other" people might actually like it! cr is supposed to spread anime across the world, so they might have tons more customers bc of cr..

Maybe only taking down dubbed stuff would be the best course. After all the originals with fansubs are never going to be shown for profit. It'd be a shame to loose those animes because where I live we get preciecly 0. I don't count the crappy Naruto dub but that is the only thing we get. They haven't even shown dragon ball on toonami in a while.

Wait, technically are streams even illegal? The downloading section would definitely be illegal since you're taking what isn't yours, just like music. However, streams are different. You can't download it, its kinda like the free music samples that you can find off amazon or whatever with cds. I guess the company would have to allow the streams. *shrugs* I don't know really. I wouldn't be too worried about streams though.

I think if its a full Anime it Technically is Illegal. Obviousley only if its liscenced, but I think even if you dont download one, thats liscenced, and share it its illegal to. Like the beggining of movies where it says any exhibit of this to a large group... ect. ect. but thats with movies I don't know about these.

i don't think CR would get shut down that easily, really huge sites like youtube have TONS of anime, and i don't see them getting problems over it?

YouTube tends to delete anime. They once had all of Gundam Seed Destiny but now there is only one episode last time I checked. And I need to watch that series damn it..

To be honest with you all the weird thing is as long as an anime is not licenced by an american company we are all fine, its the companies like 4kids that like to kill all the people who do anything with their anime, most of the big companies like the ones who did trigun bebop and some of the other big animes are just fine with sites like this because it spreads word of mouth, it is the equivelent of somebody downloading music then going to go see that artist in concert, though the companies do not see that things like this actually give their anime's more publicity henceforth giving the people more ability to purchance merchendice OSTs and the like
