As with most anime like this, when there is more than one girl the male protagonist can potentially be with, will have the most affection for, or will care for the most, she will always fall under the category of in this order of most likely case...
1. an unexpected meeting
2. a childhood friend
It's like the law of any harem anime...
Clannad, Rosario + Vampire, Nagasarete Airantou, Tokimeki Memorial Only Love...
I haven't seen Love Hina or Ai Yori Aoshi but I hear they follow this trend as well...

. . . I think hes gonna end up wid haruna, but in the last few volumes of the manga, he's kinda swaying to either one.
things 2 take note off
1. lala and rito was engaged with lala but it was canceled
2. if rito doesnt marry lala earth is destroyed
3. rito still likes haruna
