11tc Have you ever read Pascal's theorem on religion?

I'm familiar with the life and times of Pascal though i can't say that i have read through his work in alot of detail, or if i have i don't remember much. I as i've mentioned before i keep a hobbiest knowledge of philosophy, theology, politics and psychology which comes from my surroundings, so i rarely get into something unless its been recommended to me. Do you mean his statement that "as the value of eternal happiness must be infinite, then, even if the probability of a religious life ensuring eternal happiness be very small, still the expectation (which is measured by the product of the two) must be of sufficient magnitude to make it worth while to be religious"

other than that i just know his historical mathematical theories, is his work worth researching more? Voltaire seemed to like him and I'm a great fan of some of his works.

/grammar edits round two, my mind seems to move faster than my fingers type and i'm to lazy to re-read it all XD

You mean Pascal's wager right?

If you are interested in similar things you should look into Pragmatic justifications of religious beliefs.

God may exist, but the thought of the Christian's God to exist is just ridiculous due to the whole perfect-imperfect creation.

i dont believe in Genesis and i certainly think God plays a small hand at least, in our formation but the Christian God is also the jewish and muslim God too so arent you saying God is ridiculous in general?

yeah finally one for the non-religious folks.
I'm agnostic and I dont believe in any particular religion but I do believe in a God...just dont care who it is or single it out as something.

its kinda funny how atheist and agnostic people are always debating about religion more than people who are devoted to one.
Such strong views.

I'm agnostic, with a little bit of Catholic beliefs. I respect the ten commandments, but basically everything else just blows past me. The number one thing I don't like about some religions [or at least my old church, anyway], that they don't agree with people being gay. I was taught that if you're gay, you'll go to hell.

In my view of God, He should accept you no matter what, even if you are gay. And maybe that's the first reason I choose not to believe in Him fully.

Overall, I think this God thing is a little over rated, and people should just live life by laws, and go with the flow, rather than waste time worshiping someone who they've never seen.

I can understand an Agnostic with Christian views. But Not one that writes so bluntly "God exists".

I'm agnostic.
The only thing that pisses me off is when people shove their beliefs on other people. If an individual chooses to be Atheist, Agnostic, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu etc, then let them be. Its their choice.
