I never thought there are still places in American that doesn't have lights and running water. Oprah's recent episodes shock me of the reality.

If Capitalism keeps up like this, the proletariat(working class) backlash will lead to another Communistic Revolution(give it 40 years or so,people are still scared shitless when it comes to "sharing" ).

Ahh, the "American Dream", to succeed at whatever you do, while stomping on others' dreams.

I also watch Oprah.

News Flash: House passes legislation raising federal min wage to $7.15 over 3 years.

I Believe it will likely pass the senate in some form or another, and the president will sign it.

its the opposite here- there is too much help for people who get pregnant at 13 and ones that are actually too lazy to work. the ones that suffer are the ones with 'rich' parents- we get no help eventhough our parents dont give us money. O well- lifes harsh- we will have another collapse again soon im sure ^-^

Now this is interesting, because i was having this same conversation with my math instructor over at ITT tech sometime last year .

Now this is a man who came over to America about 30 years ago , and got a masters in both math and Business economics before he finished learning English (this is to illustrate how intelligent this man is , and that hes looking at the situation as more of an outside 3rd party)

What he told me , is that the increasing minimum wage will speed inflation , keeping us in the same place , or putting us in a worse one . And that this happens because , with the increase of funds from consumers , and ( from a corporate standpoint ) companies needing to make up for their loss in profits , prices in all consumer products will rise to meet with the new funds available to the " lower class" ( people at the poverty level or close to it).

This, often times makes things worse than they were befroe.

the problem is not inflation, inflation is never a problem. the problem is both parties are run economically, as are health care services and medicinals. everything is a business now, and we are reverting to a state of global financial dystrophy...we are rotting ourselves. the first time it happened, and everytime since, we have taken over more land. the strong became stronger, the weak became weaker. but now, there really is no land to plunder, we are a global world now...we are all one giant machine pretty much.

the only things that can save america as it stands now, and most modern economy over time, are 1. the destruction of lesee faire (i know i spelled that incorrectly) and put a monetary cap on things or a HUGE taxation of the rich (12 million dollars to an actor to make one movie, over 1 million for a player in a football game, meanwhile there are people living below poverty working 10-12 hours a day, in a 2 income household with no children)...this is nearly impossible, as business runs things OR 2. a revolution. im not talking about guns in hand charge the whitehouse...an economic or a social revolution, a renaissance of sorts, of the "civilized" view, a realization that this "capitalism" (it actually isnt capitalism anymore, for the most part. capitalism isn't a very broad term...there is a term for personal profit before the mother country, but i cannot remember it at the moment.) is destroying us.

the only real solution i see in the near future is a breakdown and rebuilding of the infrastructure due to a cataclysm of some sort, likely the stopping of oil productions due to lack of it if we don't get to another source of energy. Black Friday was terrible, and the depressing was gruesome...but we had less than half as many jobs, and we had a war we had just won not long before it...if we are in the rut we are in and depression hits, we are going to see something along the lines of the chinese opium wars times...that is not something i want to see for any country.

Edit: I forgot something else. another huge problem in our structure is the inability to get ahead. it used to be you work hard, you go to college, you get a good job. but now it is often, you work hard, you dont get accepted to a good college because a trust fund kid gets in or their parents donate a new wing to the library or some shit. college is INCREDIBLY expensive (i go to a shitty comm college, and it will cost me somewhere around 5 or 6k to get just my associates degree), and there aren't enough scholarships for many people. if we lowered the costs of education, we would make smarter, more able workers...workers that unlearned people could not keep up with. out education system holds us back as much as our current fiscal society towards the poor, and completely liberal with the rich. which reminds me..anyone else find it amusing that it is the liberals who are trying to cut spending, and the conservatives who are spending trillions of dollars we don't have on a bullshit war? not too conservative.

In response to the idea that if minimum wage goes up, so will the cost of living:

Yeah but it's better than the cost of living going up anyway (which it is) and the minimum wage staying put. I mean I live in NY and the Min. Wage is now (as of '07) $7.15/hr. The average 1 bedroom apt will cost you at least $900/month. (And that's a good price) It's a goddamned joke. I make almost $5 above my states min. wage and I find it really hard to get by in terms of rent, food, etc. If you can only make minimum wage, you would have to work like 3 jobs just to be able to pay for a place to sleep and eat.

On the prospect of China's growing economy:

That is a really smart move. You right, it's a global economy now. You have to adapt if you want to stay on top of the big buck ya know? Learning chinese sounds like quite a hurdle though. best of luck. :)

Me? Well I just want more money. I don't really care if it causes the cost of living to go up because it's rising around me anyway...either that or when I finish school I'm moving to another state that has cheaper housing...or maybe another country.

EDIT: Just read the post above mine as I missed it b4. Yeah. It's true. We need some sort of revolution. A cataclysm of sorts that reminds everyone of what's important. (Cataclysm is a great word btw) >.<

Man it just frustrates me to think how my gov't hoses me. How gov't's are supposed to be there to unify and protect the citizens of a country, but then some pockets get lined, donations get made, votes get threatened. Then all of a sudden your taxes have gone up, abortion and gay marriage are illegal and there's a draft. I mean seriously WTF? Government as a whole needs a makeover...and well; I can't say I'm too optimistic about the prospects of that happening...

I find that unlikely, having spoken to various US Citizens on the subject I got the impression that Americans will shun anything which look at all like communism, even socialism!!!

I Live in a country where the government is showcasing the idea of having "Euro Jobs" for the unemloyed, litterally jobs for 1euro per hour, which is terrible pay, however there is kinda rampant unemployment in Germany.
Same may happen to the US, though it's unlikely (ie. the rampant unemployment)

henz, most americans hate communism without even knowing what it is... they claim america is some strong democracy, but we arent a democracy. we are a democratic FASCIST republic. oooh, the F word... americans love to deny it, but we are fascist...maybe not to the degree of nazi germany, iran (they are interesting...a theocratic semi-fascist oligarchy of sorts) or some others...but we are fascist it that we spend our money and efforts on the fascists budgets.

as for communism being a possibility...no. americans are too greedy for that to ever work. in fact, westerners in general are (and i count russia in this, as altho they are not of the west, they are influence in st peters/stalin/moscow in a HUGE way.). communism just doesnt work.

The problem with revolutions is that they have to come full circle . They tend to follow the other definition (a 360 degree turn ) ending up in a like or worse situation.

We no longer call The revolutionary war the revolutionary war , it is now call the American war for independence .
