In response to the idea that if minimum wage goes up, so will the cost of living:

Yeah but it's better than the cost of living going up anyway (which it is) and the minimum wage staying put. I mean I live in NY and the Min. Wage is now (as of '07) $7.15/hr. The average 1 bedroom apt will cost you at least $900/month. (And that's a good price) It's a goddamned joke. I make almost $5 above my states min. wage and I find it really hard to get by in terms of rent, food, etc. If you can only make minimum wage, you would have to work like 3 jobs just to be able to pay for a place to sleep and eat.

3 jobs will kill me. A single job is even killing me now. Deadlines, meetings, reports and conventions are sucking me. I'm just glad my boss allows me to chill and able to visit CR from time to time.

henz, most americans hate communism without even knowing what it is... they claim america is some strong democracy, but we arent a democracy. we are a democratic FASCIST republic. oooh, the F word... americans love to deny it, but we are fascist...maybe not to the degree of nazi germany, iran (they are interesting...a theocratic semi-fascist oligarchy of sorts) or some others...but we are fascist it that we spend our money and efforts on the fascists budgets.

as for communism being a possibility...no. americans are too greedy for that to ever work. in fact, westerners in general are (and i count russia in this, as altho they are not of the west, they are influence in st peters/stalin/moscow in a HUGE way.). communism just doesnt work.

I find it Ironic that Americans think they live in a democracy. Most countries today who state that they're democracies aren't. They run on whats called "Representative" democracy which is completely different. Essentially you vote for people, who we're elected by other people, to decide on laws voted in by more people who were financed with certain interests. The Voters don't get decide on anything, which is not a democracy at all. In a real democracy anyone can vote directly on any key issue.

Anyhoo... what I'd like to know is how the US economy can afford to raise minimum wage. Isn't it like a 100 trillion dollars in debt? I don't know much about economics, but did notice that the place where I work has had to change it's marketing strategies to compensate for the increase as It's a small non-profit organization. We all know the big companies aren't sharing the cash, and this might be one way to make them, but what about little companies, how are they going to cope?

the american economy is great and horrible...we have been in debt since our conception (we are 8 trillion i think), however, MOST countries are in large debt...if all debt was to be paid off, money would be useless.

the problem is the small companies, yes. in the 40s and 50s, our separation of labor was the lowest in the modern world, i believe. now our separation of labor is huge. the top 10% of our country make more than the bottom 70% combined, i believe it is. the bottom 10% of americans make in a year what the top 5% make in a single day. no joke. in fact, the top 2 or 3% make in a single week more than many people will see their entire LIFE (take a 10 million dollar check for 1 movie, takes 8 months to make, and another 8 million for the remaining 4 months from another movie. 350 grand in 1 week, basically, not not even counting any businesses or anything else...some people will never make that much in their life. by make, i mean after bills, taxes and living expenses)

we have people making maybe 10,000 in a day just sitting in a desk, meanwhile we have children in the united stated who, on a blank world map, could not locate their own country, let alone state. in fact, 25% of people under 18 in the US cannot spell "The United States of America", and 10% dont even know that we aren't the only america...North America, and South America...yeah...pathetic.

I may not know big words like that and couldn't use them without making a idiot of myself and i don't know much about wages my mom can't work and either can i and i have a nephew that lives with us and had cancer so we live off of 3 disability checks and are struggling as it is if we didn't own this house since my grandpa helped build it we couldn't make it i'm pretty sure if they raise wages these kind of checks and help will go down as it is i think we are on a major decline and plowing ourselves into another great depression sometimes i envly people who lived in medivil times since the only thing they had to worry about bill wise besides food was the taxes and if you had a good king then he would watch out of the people and make sure they are taken care of. I'm afraid that if we keep this up America will become a third world country we arleady have alot more homless people infact a freind of mine this summer had to live with her entire family in a tent at the lake because they lost thier jobs and couldn't pay rent the kids and her went to bed hungry many nights becasue of that. It worries me that there are so many homeless out and this isn't even a large town or city.

I told someone the other day that I was born in South America and their response was: "oh so you were born FL?"

well, that is South America...but not South America...that is honestly really funny. there is a slight difference between american south, and those name-stealing bastards down south of the Canal! give us back our name! (actually, since south america was established first, with still-standing places, did we steal their name? amerigo vespucci landed in the northern hemisphere, but he was the first to realize that the indians weren't in the indies, and he realized it because he looked at what would become the Magellan Straight...so i guess in a way, we are the thieves. we should rename ourselves...maybe rename the continent like Milk. nobody can confuse milk with south america. where milk is outlawed, because they are all too busy fighting crocodiles and anacondas. because we all know thats how the entire continent is. i'm not ignorant!)

and bloodreign...please, god, use punctuation. i read about 3/4ths of your post, and my eyes started bleeding, so i stopped.

Someone said communism won't work. That's true, people have become too greedy.
Have you seen what China is doing to itself now that they are becoming Capitalism(aka Imperialism)?
They can't go back to their traditional Communistic ways now, their children have become enamoured with material things and financial control.

Money can buy happiness. But there will be no happiness for those without it in a Capitalistic society.

Iron Law of Wages....

You give the poor more money they in turn have more babies and then and then the influx of population means more poverty and famine. I think they are fine where they are. I mean nobody who holds a steady job (Even McDonalds cashiers) are starving.
