For some reason, this made me laugh. Over here in Japan, People who are overweight or obese is rare. In America, it is common. That's just the way it is. I have never seen anime with an obese or overweight main character. I do not want to see it (it's just my opinion). Getting so angry over something that someone said is quite pointless. What does an arguement solve in these situations? How can that change the person's opinion? Bottom line, it's just a waste of time. If they are ignorant enough to say it, then they won't care about someone's reply. If you feel so strongly about it, then please find the right place to argue. In a forum, it is a waste of your time.
Forums are discussions. One does not post to simply make the other person agree with them, but to discuss their disagreement or opinion. Lots of the people here are saying ignorant things, whether it be offensive or do to lack of knowledge. So people will respond. Where else can you find so many people with different views of something? Forums ARE the right place to argue because there can be a variety of answers.
If youre looking for a yes man topic, there are plenty of those. Are those not a waste of time? It's the exact opposite of what is going on. Are people just to agree with each other when they post on the internet? If they are, then what would be the point of any forum or topic that isnt help oriented?
Like I posted before, I don't want people to agree with me, I just want people to make valid points.
I was writing to someone else but I will respond to this. I understand that forums are places for discussions but getting so emotionally involved is absurd. Also, there are other places where you can find discussions, look around and maybe you will see. Is there any topic were EVERYONE agrees about the same exact thing? I don't think so. I NEVER said that topics were only for people who agree about a certain subject but I believe that it's wasted time and energy to get so angry at someone when they don't even care. If someone says something that is offensive to others, then correct them as you see fit and leave your emotions out because it will become a one person conversation.

hm...i've never really thought about it. I don't remember watching an anime where the main female lead is considered fat but I have seen dramas and one manga where this is true. Though the girl in the manga slimmed down as she mature.
Also, if you're healthy, it's difficult to become fat when you're so physically active like most of the anime characters....It would be boring if the anime is just about realism with no drama involved.

people want to see, what they want to relate too, well, generally. if anime and manga are not about that, then there will
only be few who'd buy them or patronize them. this is evidenced by a lack (or rarity) of fat main characters,
not just characters but MAIN CHARACTERS. i cant even think of one...there are curvacious characters but they are
curvacious, not fat.

If fans want it, why aren't they getting it? Could it be because it's not the mangaka's style? There are so many things mangaka do that the fans dont like. Why do they do it?
