hhhmmm..... not really...... but it'd be a good anime if the main character was fat then upseting somethin happens or she fell in love, then she works out, tries dieting and stuff like that, then she becomes skinny after a few eps... and no one recognises her lol

So then you have a skinny main... Doesn't that defeat the purpose? |

Nope, don't know any fat chicks as main characters. And I'm afraid that IF there will be an anime with a fat girl in the lead will appear it will be in the comedy genre instead of something serious.

All the manga I've read with fat main girls focus on their weight in a comical way, except a couple. Its like their whole life revolves around it and they are mentally crippled rather than being happy or just trying to improve themselves little by little. I guess if you have a deviant character, fans will wonder why the mangaka isn't focusing on the deviance. |

Not just a circumstantial thing like pregnancy or some transformation. Hmm, that does eliminate just about every possibility I know of. But you're right, would defeat the purpose if it was just something circumstantial. I've seen plenty of other inferior complexity situations though, as too tall, dark skin complexion, but nothing about a main character being overweight. |

I remember a shojo anime with an ensemble cast a year or so back; the girl's dormitory manager definitely had an endocrine disorder of some nature. She was featured prominently in the story arc I watched so maybe she counts as a main character... can't remember the name of the show however. The girls visited her place for vacation but ended up getting caught in a thunderstorm and having to care for a mewling baby. It's not the sort of show I would typically watch of my own volition so I must have just been checking out random anime episodes on crunchyroll.
