I know there is a thread called Hypocrites, Oxymoron, and Sarcasm already
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-18491/Hypocrites-Oxymoron-and-Sarcasm.html
its not quite what I'd like to discuss, but feel free to lock this if you'd like.

Sarcasm is usually expressed when you are speaking, you usually change the tone to, well, sound sarcastic (Like the "no shit, sherlock" tone). Since I happen to be very cynical I notice that I use a lot of sarcasm everyday. I also consider asking rhetorical questions a form of sarcasm. But other than that its hard to express sarcasm to someone who is thick or dimwitted. I want to know, how would you express sarcasm with only text?

Upon reading the replies I wonder if anyone realises the irony of this thread. Examples are a good way to get the point across, but also trying to use sarcasm to explain what sarcasm is, is where the Irony lies.

If they miss the sarcasm, I generally just go "sarcasm dimwit." Also, I clarify if something I said could be taken sarcastically or not. People get used to it after being on the internet awhile though, haha.

I can agree with that, but sometimes saying certain things when you're totally serious can be taken the wrong way. For instance, if I replied to you in this manner.

"Yea and we should have a sarcasm button on our keyboards."

If I read that it could go either way. ya kno what I mean? I guess the visual aid here and there could help also (like all those fail pictures.)

I use italics, or -a line- to emphasize a certain word or phrase to hopefully sway the others' minds to tone the words how I intend for them to be.

Thanks for the pic. I may even put it to quite some use.
