I'm glad that you're learning. The things that awesome about the Deaf community (and that includes HoH people) is that we're very welcoming people. If you're willing to learn our language, then join the group. We'll help in any way we can, in most cases. I can't think really of anyone I know that doesn't really encourage ppl to learn sign. Rock on! I fully support you!

Im not deaf mysefl but I got sensibilised about deaf people very early, i'll skip details. I did some volunters works with deaf people as well and if i wasnt so damn busy, i think i should try to give a bit more to my university and take notes or translate classes for them. Sadly i had to make a choice and LSQ wasnt my priority. Please dont kill me ^_^;

It always amaze me when i meet others deaf people. I speak Quebec sign language (i even took the class for it in university, got me some "almost free" credit) and i realise that it actually been usefull for me more than i would have imaginated.
I love the language, its so direct and so.. imaged? Its very poetic in its very own way. I think its so beautifull ... and sometime so brutally direct ^_^
I like how we get nicknames ^_^ mine is ... well... lets skip this ^_^;
I realise also, travelling to the USA, that even if the sign arent the same, i can easely get away with it and have a conversation even if its not exactly the same dialect.
Deaf_eyes, if you lost it while you was in college, then you most than likely still can talk ^_^ Its not easy i know, but its not that bad ^_^ people can understand you to a extend !!! and we have you here on the net! Good to see you!

Thanks, Hylia!! Yeah, I can still speak, but it is difficult. Most of the time, if I have an interpreter with me, I prefer for them to speak for me. ASL is my first language now. I use it every day and there's not a single way it doesn't touch my life. I love my life, being Deaf and all. Sign Language is amazing and I'd never stop using it. I can paint pictures in the air and tell more funny stories with more expression and craziness than most people can imagine. It's awesome.
I went with one of my Deaf friends to a night club on Wednesday night. it was really funny seeing people trying to scream at each other over the music. The only problems we had were the strobe lights making it hard to see! It was an awesome time!

Haha. I don't think any of us really WANTED to be Deaf. We've just made good with what we've got. Some of us might be able to change it, hearing aids, surgery, cochlear implants... but some of us can't. We just do what we can. And some of us can still hear a bit... but it's not clear enough to understand. Most people who are Deaf can hear some things... but they DO generally have to be REALLY loud. haha. God bless the invention of the sub-woofer! haha
