Anyone attend a music college?? i attend one at this one called ATM (Access to Music). it's a college about the music industry. and im now sitting here for 5 hours doing nothing until my guitar tutor lesson...... then my journey is about 1 and 1/2 hours home.

other than that its pretty cool.....got some songs done and the band is doing pretty good. we have 6 weeks to prepare for the first gig(should of been a battl of the bands i reackon), and a free trip to N.E.C!! i get to meet kerry king, MAB, and status Quo.

and theres going to an attempted guiness book of world record there: 1,500 guitarists playing the most annoying tune of all time(if played by someone else): smoke on the water. i might join just for fun.

Anyone attend a music college??

I presume by college you mean uni? Or do you actually mean college ie the UK version?

Music academies/colleges/unis here are generally harder to get into and they have a smaller intake. People who do attend are normally there by recommendation.

I don't go to a music college as such but I used to attend and was taught piano at the North East of Scotland Music Academy, which is I guess is the most prestigious one in NE Scotland. (Although NE Scotland is pretty small and insignificant T_T )

When they found out that I don't intend to do music as a career they kind of dropped me ^^
Actually I left 'cos they were always pushing me towards going to places like Guildhall and I got a bit miffed at them.

@ animoo_x: I believe he's referring to your University standard, kinda like the one that Chiaki attends.

They're called "colleges" here in the Philippines, as well, but the more aloof would refer to them as Conservatories of Music.

When I was still in High School, I considered entering a conservatory... but my mother discouraged me, since there's not much to look forward to, according to her, once I get my degree...

and now, I'm in medicine... whooo boy...

^ Chiaki? *drools*

Conservatories of Music? Haha I have never heard them being called that before ^^
Actually a few years back I considered going to a conservatory but similarly my parents told me that music was too hard to get into, that you really needed pure talent and luck (both of which I lacked) and I would struggle to make money or even a career out of it.
Gutted...^^

^ Yeah, that's very true... talent and luck... and sadly, the more talented ones are usually those that don't succeed very well...

Well, It was what I wanted. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't talented enough to get into one. (I play Piano and Violin but I sucked big time at Violins)

And so... Here I am... (I know, it says nothing about me.)

I guess i'm sticking to law. *rewatching Nodame Cantabile directly after this post*

annoyingly true. but effort also surpasses talent. companies aim for what the target audience wants, no matter sad to us the music could be, or no mattr how crap the musicians could be. the companies don't give a crap what band they sign. in the end, for them, its down to impression all about the royalties.

I would love to check myself into a music conservatory as well. In NUS, we have the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory. Everyday I stare at it enviously.

I am a music major at the Jacobs School of Music. I study voice performance, and I absolutely love it! The only thing that I don't like is the hectic schedule and of course Theory. It just gets harder as you go into the higher levels. Whenever I thought I had it hard, I always used to think of people who have it harder like........the people studying medicine and such.

.....Then one of my classmates was telling me how hard Music Theory was for him. So I said those medicine majors probably have it harder. He quickly said, nope. Apparently he studied medicine for a year first, then switched majors to music. And he said, I am dead serious, the first year of a music major compared to the first year of a medicine major (at IU) was much harder for him. I couldn't believe it........................until I learned that next semester I have to take M-401. MUSIC HISTORY. I did some research and found that Indiana University's M-401 is the third hardest course in the nation. (US) I hope I can get through this class.

All my semesters have been crazy at IU. I took 19 credits first fall semester, 18 credits first spring semester, 18 credits second fall semester and will be taking 19 again this spring. This is why I can't be on CR as much as I want to...
