The cultural ineptitudes contained in this topic (and from other observation, this board) are just fucking hilarious.

Well... punk is sort of... leather jackets, tartan, brightly-coloured tights, Doctor Marten boots, chains, brightly-coloured hair, sometimes a bit of a brash personality, and loud rock music, like the Sex Pistols or Guns 'n' Roses.

Whereas Goths are quieter, wear black, wear makeup, and tend to like a wide variety of music. From soul-metal like Nightwish, to thrash, etc.

Feel free to correct anything...

Guns n' Roses is Rock/Love Rock/Hard Rock, don't compare it with Punk rock :P

Also to everyone else:

You can't really characterize people, there are many types of people who are considered punks or goths, but they do not follow or do exactly what everyone else does.

For example, some goths are religious while others aren't, etc...

Well if I may jump into the realm of stereotypes I can tell you. The main difference, originally, is the music. But since the first wave of punk about the time where goth split in a whole new direction, this can be seen with the semi-second generation punk semi-first generation goth band like Bauhaus. But you can see the difference huge growing difference between them. If you look at a second generation punk band, as in punk as we know it, (NOT EMO thats not punk) lets make the example The Casualties, and a third generation goth band, Evanescence. Though these genres were once one, they have diverged to the point of near total separation.

I do know what you mean. My friend was a Goth, and we were out in town once... and this Salvation Army girl came up to her and asked her if she wanted to be saved. :X She's a genuinely nice person, and she's agnostic... Not evil or Pagan like this idiot thought. >_>

awww man, everyone here who's saying "gothic" has it all wrong =P

Gothic was the type of building interior and exterior designs of buildings in medieval periods and a style of clothing that is actually very fancy and nice =D

"Goth" on the other hand, is quite different from "gothic"...just wanted to throw that out there ^^''

Anyways, as it's probably been stated numerous times, all the people have been saying that blah blah goths are all antisocial derbildeedah that's just a common stereotype, i dress in the so called "goth" style (got a pair of tripp pants, choke collar, etc) and i'm friendly to those that i guess some would call "nerds" or whatever other social stereotype there is =/

But thats aside the point, punks don't usually wear the black stuff, they just go for the more ripped up jeans and whatnot stuff, plus they usually get in trouble for vandalism and whatnot, probbly =/

idk, that might be the stereotype? I just think that the only difference between punk and goth is what the person themself calls it? i dunno, im probably just rambling so bai =D

Punk in the 70's and 80's and shit used to be fucking fantastic, now it's turned into pure suckage with no real rebellion or power behind it.Look up G.G Allin on YouTube that guy is the very definition of awesome and kept the true nature or Rock N' Roll and Punk alive. As for differences type it on Google or Wikipedia or something,if you want an ok enough definition. What people refer to as Punk and Goth will be different, let's just say they aren't what they once were. Now it's about fashion and style and gay haircuts, not the attitude or the music in my opinion.I lol'd at the shit in most of this thread of the stereotypical perceptive of dress sense and personality.

punks (from what i know) are rebellious, very rebellious. they like music and like to hang out and have fun, ^^ that's what i like about them, ^^ just very rebellious.

goths (some) are very poetic, artistic and quiet. also very dark, sometimes, weird, and i think a bit of a clowny image, ^^ -_-
