awww man, everyone here who's saying "gothic" has it all wrong =P

Gothic was the type of building interior and exterior designs of buildings in medieval periods and a style of clothing that is actually very fancy and nice =D

"Goth" on the other hand, is quite different from "gothic"...just wanted to throw that out there ^^''

Let me explain it with music (three mainstream bands of each genre):

Punk :
Sex Pistols
Ramones
the Clash

Goth:
The cure
Type O negative
Nine Inch Nails

i don't mean to offend but..
punk: idk
goth: lame
goth people say they're different. but how is it different when you have the same bondage pants as every other goth at the school. and i bet it's embarassing to go to school and find that your friend is wearing the same shirt.
and the makeup..that i will never understand. what they do with eyeliner looks fucking retarded.
and deliberately staying out of the sun just so you can stay pastey white...why? you're missing out on summer.
alot of goth people think they're hardcore because they listen to heavy metal. well, guess what? i listen to heavy metal.
i don't like the attitudes that goth people have. i was at the mall and wearing an abercrombie shirt and i walked past a group of goths and they seriously glared at me. i'm like, ok you hate "preps" for judging your lame asses and yet you don't know me and you're judging me for wearing a brand name? plus i'm not a prep so that's just shows how dumb they were.
yeah, in short, i'm pretty fed-up with the whole i'm dark and i hate the world persona that they cling to.
get a life.

Bingo. They claim that other people are being "sheep" and all looking the same, but so do they. What do they think about all that black clothing and makeup? That looks like a uniform to me, same as all the people who wear the exact same Abercrombie stuff.

I'm not sure if I want to get into this debate, but many of the people who call themselves 'punk' nowadays havn't even heard of the likes of The Damned, 999 and The Vibrators. That depresses me somewhat. I also can't help but be annoyed when so called fans go on about the Sex Pistols, when frankly, they were never good. But then again, if it wasn't for them we wouldn't of had the likes of The Adverts, so I suppose the inspiration they gave younger bands was a pretty good thing. Especially seeing as the likes of The Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Screeching Weasel and Rancid eventually came along to even out the crapness. Though, don't get me started on the overrated crap that is The Undertones and The Ramones that unfortunately many would put in the same category. For me their music was never on the same level of some of the other bands I have mentioned. Thats the thing about punk music, a lot of rubbish is remembered and a lot of amazing bands are completely forgotten about.

Right, rambling stops here. I wont even try to discuss 'goth' as I have no idea.

Simple definition before everybody sits here and starts a goth-flaming argument. Punks are the ones who jump around like lunatics doing the stupidest things imaginable so that people will look at them. Punk is just a cry for attention from needy skaters. Goths do outrageously stupid-looking things because they felt like it and they don't care what you have to say about it. And if you've been glared at by a group of goths, you probably deserved it.

Not all Gothics are "dark". That's why we have colorful Lolitas, which make women look happy/sweet/adorable. Although, some guys wear them too, like Mana-sama. I just think Gothics fear something that can't really be observed by many people...

Punks...I don't think I ever even met one living in the ghetto

Not all Gothics wear BLACK!

then there's a bunch of different colors....

Skaters and real Punks? Hahaha? Your definition of both deserves a round of applause!

/sarcasm

W/e, it looks like the Punk from a few years ago is not the same as the one from today, same goes for Goths.

I only know about girl goths and punks. Isn't the one of the differences between them pink? Don't more punks wear pink than goths do?

Yeah, obviously I forgot to answer the main question of this thread. But sadly I thought that Google.com would do the job, too. I can't be bothered by explaining the obvious.

Google wouldn't help at all. And i suppose it is obvious. Until you get the skater with 2,000 piercings in all black. Then it's a toss-up.
