Why And How Did You Join Johnny's?

If Nino wanted to become a professional baseball player, I wanted to become a professional basketball player. I actually have an embarrassing story compared to the other guys. I spend most of my time at home when I'm not in school - studying, do household chores or even help out at the restaurant whenever my parents needed it. I met a lot of people there - regulars, new customers, those from out of town and out of the country and it felt really great. Some of them think that I'm a "people person" and that they needed more like me to be in the entertainment biz but that never really crossed my mind at all.
When we had a family gathering at home, I was watching one of my usual NBA basketball games on TV when a few of my cousins, who were die-hard Johnny's fans, argued with me to change the channel so they can watch Shounen Club. I was pretty furious that I had to miss my game because of them but when I flipped the channel, there was SMAP and a bunch of other Juniors playing basketball. I was impressed with these guys who can actually play a good game of basketball in that show that it gave me this really crazy idea that if I join Johnny's, I'll have more exposure by famous basketball coaches and maybe they'll draft me to be in their teams.
So I asked my cousins to pick me up an application. I filled it, sent in with my photo and I even had a long list of "skills" on the application, mainly on my basketball skills that is. I had no idea that they meant acting, singing and dancing (which are the things that I know nothing about). About a few weeks later, I got a call informing me that I have an "audition appointment." To me, they meant "basketball tryouts appointment." So I got myself all geared up - basketball, towel, duffel bag and all that and went to the location. When I got there, the other guys who signed up were all wearing all these cool, stylish clothes and some where practicing their dancing skills. I felt really embarrassed because I was the only one there with an NBA jersey, basketball shorts, sneakers and a basketball in my hand.
When it was my turn, they asked me if I can sing and dance and act. I told them honestly that I thought it was a basketball tryout but the strangest thing happened. Johnny-san let me stick around for a bit and just join in some of the practices. From these practices, I met Nino for the first time. He and I hung out for a while until we got placed into a subgroup, MAIN, where we met Matsujun and Toma Ikuta.
Then later during rehearsals at a V6 concert, I met “senior” Juniors such as Hideaki Takizawa, Tsubasa Imai and later on, the once-popular Musical Academy, Yuki Kohara and their honorary member, Sho Sakurai. I didn't think I met Ohno until a few months before we debuted as Arashi.
I had backdanced for every Johnny's group for as long as I can remember and I was so used to being at the back rather than at the front. I get shy in Shounen Club when I had to do some "main performances" right up front.
When the news about the next debut group came up, I wanted to talk to Johnny-san to prevent me from being accepted into the group because of my little "fear" of performing in front. I guess I enjoyed dancing in the backso much because no one will notice if I messed up or not.
One day, I got a call from Johnny-san and I was about to bring up the subject of me not debuting but instead he interrupted me by saying "Would you like to go to Hawaii?" And the rest is history.
I was fooled at first but I had fun in Hawaii. Now I have this crazy idea that as a member of Arashi, we can go to fun places - maybe always go to Hawaii since we debuted over there instead of Japan (like the rest of the Johnny's groups before). I thought that we’d always be in Hawaii.
When we had our first performance as Arashi, I still performed in the back. If we were all lined up in the same position, I'm always at the side, not in the middle. I'm not the type who likes to be in the middle but I have height disadvantage of being the tallest in the group so I had to be in the middle at times.
And I'm also glad that my new band mates were close friends of mine as Juniors (except that I had to 'break the ice' with Ohno at that time because he was so quiet, shy and mysterious at the same time). When we first had our performance singing "A-Ra-Shi" (and yes, we all dreaded the "clear plastic raincoat" costumes - that was the last time we would ever wear that horrid costume ever!), it felt so weird seeing my fellow Juniors dancing behind my back rather than us dancing with them at the back of some other group.
Today, I've gradually learned to get used to being in front. When I had my solos in concerts, I never had any back dancers with me for I'm still not used to seeing fellow Juniors dancing behind me. I would rather be by myself performing so no one would be behind me. And performing with Arashi, I'd rather be in the back.
Who I think should always be in the front all the time? I would say our leader, Ohno-kun. He's our leader. He's the lead singer. He should be in front at all times.

yeah all of them make Arashi. If one of them were to be missing then it wouldn't be Arashi. It would be like taking the A out of Arashi. It would be Rashi
