Mind over matter is viable. I believe this to be true especially with illnesses at higher risk due to things like high blood pressure and stress. If you calm yourself you'll avoid those risk factors.

And it seems to be true in my case with stomach aches and cramps.

I really believe that the mind is so epic that we don't even know how to use half of its capability. Like Placebo-affects, your mind is doing most of the work when you are given morphine and other drugs but not consciously. You're not in control of that part of the mind, but omg it would be amazing if we did.

I meditate, and the mind is incredible. The more you believe how powerful it is, the stronger it becomes. I just wish I could have used my mind to explode the kidney stones blocking up my kidneys -__- but meditating helped with the pain at least. The only time it didn't was when I was asleep and then the pain took revenge, and that is when it was time to call the emergency services.

If symptoms of a disease can disappear because we think we've taken a cure (ie the Placebo Effect) then I can't see any reason why symptoms couldn't appear if we believe we have a disease.

I saw a perfect example of this on TV.

its like the House episode when they are on a plane and a guy comes down with something they think is a serious disease then other people start to get the same symptoms too. At the end of the episode these symptoms were causes of mass hysteria where people thought they had a disease that didn't exist and their mind made up the symptoms. The first guy who started it all just had the bends from scuba diving the day before. (nothing fatal at all)

Edit: Sorry the bends is fatal just not contagious. I can't think very straight today
