THE MOVIE IS THE MOST GOD AWFUL PRODUCTION EVER SPAWNED IN THE AMERICAS.

Actually you're wrong THAT would be Battlefield Earth. The book was INCREDIBLE...the film was total and utter tripe.

Eragon on the other hand was a watchable movie and a reasonable read.....but the book was definatly the lesser of two evils.

Both blow big ****! Eragon is just a terrible rip-off of J.R.R. Tolkien and Ursla LeGuin (Seriously go read The Lord of the Rings and Earthsea), and it is a poorly developed story to boot!

AT LAST!!!! A thread in which to rant!!! You brought this on yourself:

Eragon was the worst drivel I've ever read in my life!!!He just ripped of loads of other, better fantasy writers like tolkien, eddings and feist. The only reason he got published is because his bloody parents are publishers! The book was full of words that were out of place, words that he obviously just stuck in because he thought they sounded good so he looked them up in a dictionary to see where he could inject them in.

Also, the bloody fainting!!!!
He faints like a gazillion times in the book!!!!

Fainting is a very poor cheap thing that crappy authors use to have a quick transition from one scene to the next, it requires very little effort, and it was so annoyingly obvious!!

I read the books and they were pretty good. But I refused to watch the movie, it looked way to stupid to waste time or money on.

That movie sucked. I have read the first two Eragon books and they just changed and left out way too much stuff. Plus they didn't have the werecat or anything. That right there is a sin. He was one of the best characters.

haha. I liked the book, I don't care who he ripped off or anything it was a good read though the first was a little predicatble and juvenile, but the second was enough to make me happy. Just the third need sto come out.
Anyways yeah the movie downright sucked when in comparision to the book, but don't they always? i've stopped watching the harry potters movies

Actually liked the book pretty much, not the best fantasy i've read, but certainly good enough. The movie... to me it seemed like too much was cut out and such, don't remember everything about the movie right now, but the thought i remember having directly after it was that too much was cut away and changed.

The only reason that book ever hit our market, and it did hit it-like we hit Nagasaki in WWII, is because the punk home school kids parents were the publishers.

Here’s the truth, from a neutral point of view, the book had a lack of depth, originality, literary techniques, and many other attributes fundamental to a good book. However, these are not items which a young reader looks for or even notices. So, although the book was intended to appeal to a teenage audience (as it obviously was) it fails, but still remains a decent child’s book.

It’s appropriate for kids 10-12, but even then there are so many more important things to read.

It’s a mediocre book by a mediocre writer-whose finite talent is due largely to his youth (as he was about 14-15 when he wrote that book, as I understand.)

It should have never been made into a movie, and the only reason that dismally abysmal masterpiece of trash did as well as it did is A. Because the kids who liked the book wanted a movie, B. The people who were too lazy to experience the suckage of the book via symbols and letters but still wanted to know what level it sucks, and D. With Harry Potter drawing to an end, and LOTR just out of theatres, people are still thirsty for a good fantasy movie.

So! GET US A SWORD OF SHANARA MOVIE, or better, GET US A VOYAGE OF JERLE SHANNARA MOVIE! The Sword of Shannara was also written by a young writer, but it’s actual well written, and a good story, with a wonderful twist at the end. (Though, to be fair and honest, the beginning and middle reek of LOTR, it’s not until you reach the function of the sword itself that you see how original it really is.)

In the end, I read the book and my eyes bled, and I watched the movie-mostly-and I can STILL taste the suck.
