Well you basically answered your own question. There is no "best" because something being the "best" would mean that every anime watcher has this show as their favorite. And I highly doubt that will since every anime has something that viewers don't like and there are also critics.

without a doubt, a repeat thread.

The best anime is a matter of opinion. Naruto/bleach fans would say bleach. Death note fans would say death note. Other's would say other anime. There are also categories for best anime types.

Sports: Prince of tennis in my humble opinion. Then again, I've never actually seen very many sports anime.
Adventure: hmmm...I like MAR a lot.
Psychological: Higurashi No Karu Ni. Sorry, but I'm biased against Death Note.
