I highly recommend Pichenda - she's one of my favorite singers. If you look her up, you'll find some really good songs. Although I wish that we were able to make our own songs instead of copying it from other people.

What I don't get is why Preap Sovath is so famous, I watched his performance and I found nothing out of the ordinary. Oh well, I guess everyone has different taste.

well i'm just asking cause i don't know alot of khmer singers/bands so who's yours i want 2 know so i could check out their songs

Check out anyone under Rock Production. They have great vocalists, ORIGINAL lyrics, ORIGINAL composition, and great songs overall.

Most of the artists others have mentioned on here are Rasmey Hang Meas artists. I don't recommend them at all because their production company thrives on the business of stealing other people's songs. They take top hits from other countries (from America, Asia, Europe...), throw in some Khmer words, and release it under the pretenses that it's an original that belongs to them. It's time we step up and say, enough is enough. We shouldn't support that.

modern khmer music is...pretty lame.
all we do now a day is COPY other friggin Asian singers.
it's like...do we have NO BRAIN?
seriously, it's pretty lame.

if i do listen to cambodian, it's probably the old schools.
like sinn sisamouth and the other famous female singer.

just my 2 cents.

I absolutely agree.

Except, I do listen to Rock Production. They are ORIGINAL! And they are our only hope to gaining any respect in the music biz...

Speaking of which, I have a Khmer American friend living in the US right now. She'd love to start a music career in Cambodia one day. It's why I respect her and people like Rock Production. They're talented, they make their own songs, and they're all about creating change. I think the best way to stop this karaoke/ripping-off madness is to just crush the competition with original work. Even if Rock is #2 in the biz, they still come in #1 for RESPECT.

Check them out, they are the future:

SOVANREACH && SOKUNiSA..!!! they r from HongMea..they are good singer...i dont think they copy from other pple song. they create their own. =] not like Nop Panarath. one of hes song wiht this girl where copy from BigBang..the are copy from them

I suggest you do some research before making a comment like that. Rasmey Hang Meas has been remaking non-Khmer songs into so-called Khmer songs for years! Every RHM artist has sung at least one remake. Perhaps it's because you don't listen to the original songs that you're unaware of this fact, but THIS is what RHM does.

I listen to a variety of American, European, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Canto and Mando), and Thai music, so I recognize the songs when somebody in RHM rips it off.

You say Sokun Nisa doesn't copy and creates her own... clearly you haven't seen the preview to RHM's latest DVD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpwP97ljv6o

RHM's latest marketing gimmick is to have the girls become the RHM Angels (how original). There is already a Khmer girl group in the US that are called the Khmer Angels, so I find it ironic that they'd choose the same name for their own songbirds.

There are two videos in the preview. The first one is a complete rip off, because that's a Korean song and the video is very similar to a Thai MV I've seen before. The second one is a complete rip off, because that's also a Korean song and they even ripped off the choreography. These are NOT Khmer songs.

It is unfortunate that this video has been posted, because we've garnered unwanted attention: Khmers who have given up on Khmer music, non-Khmers who insult our music and look down on us, and fans of the ORIGINAL artist/group to the songs that now mock us. Some comments were downright offensive.

But it's even more unfortunate that there are people who think "everyone copies from each other eventually, so you all need to relax". Seriously? That argument is without basis.

And finally, there are the people who say "it's good that these songs are translated so Khmer people can understand them". Are you kidding me? Khmer people are NOT TRANSLATING the songs. They are writing their own lyrics! The meaning is NOT the same! They don't give a shit about the original meaning because they only want to rip off the song.

I don't get how people can continue to support production companies like RHM who do BAD remakes and TAKE CREDIT for OTHER people's work.
