Itasha (Anime decorated Cars)
Posted 10/23/07 , edited 10/23/07
The word Itasha (痛車(いたしゃ))describes a car that has been plastered with anime stickers and other form of decoration. Literally means "pain(痛い(itai)) car(車(sha))" and for some reason the kanji for "pain" was chosen as it sounds like the "ita" from イタ車(itasha)which means Italian Car.

For a year or so now I have been contemplating if i should delve into the art of "itasha"
I think it's a great form of decoration for a vehicle is done right. But for me it's all about moderation...I'm fairly sure I'm having something rather prolific done to my car for Christmass...It's just as to what.

Does anyone here have anything similar to this done to their ride? Feel free to post pictures of it or with any suggestions as to what customization i should look into.
Large decals, Painted on characters or other suggestions would be a great help.

Also. What do you people think about this trend and would you ever do such a thing ro your vehicle?

No, don't think I would do that to my car. But everyone has their different interest. I never really liked car paintings and stickers etc. How much money would this cost though?

Haha, my parents always bash me for watching anime, so I imagine if i mentioned wanting itasha for my car to them, they'd bash me to the ground. I'm going to look up some more cars and see how others were done. What kind of style are you looking for on you car?

The biggest problem is my vehicle is black...so that somewhat limits my options...i was looking for probably something like a black and white outline of a character....perhaps Alexander Anderson from Hellsing, Optimus Prime from Transformers, or Kan-u Unchou from Ikki Tousen
But I'm certainly open to more options

I'm trying to find them, not many pictures of itasha. But I'm not giving up! A lot of these cars I'm seeing have sexy anime girls on them. I imagine they may cause some wrecks hehe.

Here's a few pictures for some people viewing this topic... I can only see to find cute lil girls for itasha. http://mainichi.jp/enta/mantan/graph/anime/20071009/ (image intensive)

I've seen pics like those online quite a bit and I've usually passed them off as well done photoshops, though I did think some of them were real. I didn't know it was a relatively common thing (enough to earn it it's own terminology). I especially like the hug pillows converted into seat covers.

Personally, I could never fathom doing it. I don't like to advertise being an anime fan as it is right now (i.e. shirts, reading manga in public, talking about anime in public, admitting to knowing what it is...). Granted I have a jeep, but even if I had something like a ricer I still wouldn't do it. I've found over the years the more I hide my strange and oft misunderstood hobbies like anime there better I have been for it. A car covered in giant anime stickers would just shatter that good policy to pieces.

I wouldn't mind a giant fanservice of some anime girl bending over on my trunk.

Although i see your point. I'm quite open with being an anime fan and i honestly get no hackling for it whatsoever. It's more of the " whatever floats your boat dude" Type of deal.

I don't drive a ricer either...but i feel it's a fairly creative way to establish your liking of anime without going into super nerd mode about it. (instead of decorating my room in wall scrolls and anime plush dolls) I'll just have a character I'm fond of painted on my car
I Actually just found a rather nice Spike one i want on my front hood (granted i have no idea how much this would run me though)

I'd hate to say it but I actually like this idea

I would have something lie this on my car if I could though

As cool a pic as that is for what you want to do.... the thought of ruining the hood of a perfectly good bmw rather unsettles me... in fact i'd say more so than if it was just honda civic or something...
