Sampling........its done so often in the rap game we don't even know if some artists are actually original! People such as Kanye West, Timberland, and Dr. Dre have all sampled in their career and they have become very successful! But is it right take other peoples beats and make more money then the person who made it? Yes, there are copyright laws that prevent this but often artist never report where they sampled! And should they be credited as being original?

Here are some rap sample vids They are 10 minutes but if you click more info....you can see the songs and the sampler songs (I think they out of order lol):

Ironically I JUST watched those videos a few days ago.

I think sampling is fine as long as you don't do that shit TOO MUCH like Kanye.

He's an awesome RAPPER...but an awesome PRODUCER?? Nah.....he lacks originality.

Well for that matter, alot of producer lack orginality in the rap game.........I was amazed at how many songs were sampled! i mean some of them were obvious but hell some weren't.........but I think it has muddled the rap game. We claim to be original but yet we take other people shit tweak it and rap on it and BAM its a hit! As for Kanye you know damn well where I stand with him! True enough yeah its innovative how they basically took something and made it better.......but it takes away from rappers finding an original song............I can say for a fact that Andre 3000 and Timberland make original shit because they are MUSICIANS!

Sampling is cool if you can really flip it so it doesn't sound like the original.

I have sampled for only one song I've produced so far (unreleased). If you listen to a lot of artist's in the unsigned group, the songs are pretty much 100% original...but I was thinking maybe mainstream artists like to sample for the same reason anyone does. If you hear a good riff or part of a song u like and get an idea for adjusting it a bit, u are going to want to do it. You can't even say that the songs are bad (not that anyone has). Yes, it's unoriginal, but the artists think about what sounds good and what the audience will think about the song. Just because it's unoriginal, doesn't mean we won't listen to it or like it.

i personally like samples... especially the oldie ones like Kanye does that uses the chorus for the hook...

ex. "Through the Wire" & "Overnight Celebrity"

cuz after a while basic drum beats get kinda.... boring or overused... i like hearing piano & strings & horns.
They maybe one of the reasons Kanye is so hot, he never just uses the drums as the dominant sound...

"Touch the sky" - brass instruments
"Coming Home Again" - Piano

What Dave Chappelle said was true... black ppl like the drums, latino ppl like the electric piano, & white ppl like the guitar

You keep bitchin' about how many times Kanye uses samples, raja? You've obviously forgotten about the muthafucka that made sampling an obsession in hip hop....................

Again, it doesn't matter if he uses samples too much. It's how he flips them. That's what makes his stuff original and fresh.

And it's not just 'Ye that samples a whole lot. I can name a bunch of highly-touted beatsmiths that make their living from strictly sampling.

Awwww indeed..........I forgot about P.Diddy but you know he barely makes music anymore.........But still either way
Kanyes first album 15 out 21 tracks sampled.........2nd album 17 out of 21(including bonus tracks) 3rd album 12 out of 13! This isn't originality this is copy and paste with a dash of seasoning.......and its something new? Its kinda like taking 5 day leftover meatloaf chopping it up and putting it in spaghetti.
