okay, so i've heard some conflicting information about overdrive. originally i was told that you only turn it on on the freeway to save you gas and i've also noticed it forces my car to rev higher. more recently some other people have told me that its actually better to leave it on all the time and you get more gas mileage. so whats the truth??

Leave it on all the time and you're simply straining your engine. Use it ONLY AT HIGH SPEEDS (such as freeway speeds)

This is why America should actually have manual transmissions instead of confusing, annoying automatics trannys.....

ok if u leave it on when u drive around town it makes your tranny work harder, and cuts life on your tranny, overdrive was to made to be on the highways or when ever your over 55mph, so its kinda of quick boost in a way.

haha i guess people like having the option. plus there are always those people who are handicapped in the left leg who can't have a clutch in their cars.

And there are retards like me who try to push in the clutch in an automatic car, and go "Wtf?" when we don't feel it.

Overdrive causes the revs to go DOWN - not up - that's how it saves petrol. Also it cuts out automatically when you drop a gear. I've ownwd an MG and an old Volvo with 4 speed gearboxes with overdrive.

To support your statement, you're saying that you try to press on the "clutch pedal", when in fact, automatics don't have clutch pedals. Without a clutch pedal, control of the car is reduced and manual transmission drivers feel like communism is controlling their driving in an automatic.....

Something like that. I just doesn't feel right when I drive an automatic. Seriously, what does your left foot do? Brake?
