this occurred to me today when i was on the train, i saw this middle aged guy. He was wearing paint-splattered boots, a sloppy joe with holes in it, tattered jeans and a hat with faded colours. but when i looked closer, i saw he had a) a rolex watch b) a N-series Nokia phone and c) a silver ring on his thumb...... then someone called him, and when he answered the phone he spoke like a very well- educated person. i just thought it seemed very out of place.

another time was when i coming back from training in the late afternoon, i saw 15-16 ish girl with 2 nose rings, dyed hair and punk-ish clothes. she had her fone in her hand and was doing whatever, but then i saw her smile, the smile you expect from the really nice book-ish type, she laughed after that.... it was probably the most innocent laugh i had ever heard, seemed very out of place indeed.

so what are your thoughts??? you ever met/saw anyone that didn't fit into their stereotype ???
ps
though i doubt it i think this topic hasnt come up ... just delete it if it has

I saw a man wearing nothing but short pants with a big tummy walking around in a shopping centre.

I think you guys have missed 207mbdy's point. He was asking about people whose appearance doesn't match their persona (you can't judge a book by its cover). It has happened a few times to me. one was when i was 18 and saw a woman on the bus who looked about 60, had way too much makeup caked on, pigtails and was wearing the sort of see through clothes that would have looked wrong on even the skinniest teenager (she was a large lady). She was laughing most of the time, at nothing in particular. I thought she must have been insane or something, but she got off the bus at the same stop as me and went to the uni. Later I discovered she was a senior lecturer in mathematics. This experience helped teach me not to make snap judgements about people based on their appearance.

Felt out of place? as in not fitting in with society?
anyone in a minority group will be out of place.

i see people like that on the bus the most, i guess with too much time on my hands i start judging people based on stereotypes, bad habit but i remember last year i was in the same situation where most of my classmates and i were painting for a set in the school musical, and we were pretty much drenched in paint from head to toe, until our lunch break when the school went into lockdown just as we had left the building... ... we couldn't enter the school after that so we had to walk around the block and everybody looked at us weird, i imagined what they'd think of us, probably an armed revolt on behalf of underpaid painters or something haha but that taught me not to judge people either based on appearances alone

I myself seems out of place because others always mistook me for a college student while I'm really just a freshman. They think I look like an old dude!

I have met many people who look one way but in reality are totally different than what their look would lead me to believe. I tend to be drawn to people who "don't fit in the box"

There's a lady who lives next door, who seems like a real hippie. She's got the whole 70's thing going on in the way she dresses, and has gnomes and elves and other whimsical stuff all around her house on the outside.

She's really weird and seemingly insane, but then one day I went to the hospital to visit someone, and I found out she's a neurosurgeon.

Gosh lol, was I surprised!

Well, I'm surprised seeing that you're from Canada and you'd say something like that. Even though Canada's not as big of an immigrant country as America is, you get a lot of people from everywhere.

And do you just see the minority group as anyone who isn't a fair skinned Caucasian? Like how people from Russia would fit right in without saying something, as opposed to someone from Thailand or something.

And I don't think like that, because after all the Natives were there in Canada (and America) looooong before anyone else, and they're the true Canadians and Americans but everyone seems to forget that, and only thinks of the so-called "whites" as being the real ones, even though they immigrated there long after the Natives set there footprints on those lands.

What I'd call a minority group is someone who immigrates to a place that doesn't get much immigration from outside, and isn't a real "immigrant country." Like Scandinavia or something.
