um... i don't really know about SAT and those things but at least from where you guys are from you can study until highschool, where i live the opportunities for getting primary education are reserved for the rich and middle class citizens... ofcourse going to college is important and entails certain qualifications... i'm in college right now and my parents are busting their a** just to let me finish.. so maybe the universities are also looking for the applicant's financial capability to afford their, um, offered blah.....

No matter what, people with more money will have a more privileges than a person with very little money. Get used to it. Don't think it is not fair either because it actually is. Their parents have poured a ton of money into their children's education at a young age, so they better damn well see them go into a good collage.

Not only do you have to have high grades, GPA, high SAT scores, be highly involved in the community, and attend many after school activities; you have to going to a good school. Statistic show that depending on the areas average income will tell you how good the neighborhood schools will be. Richer areas usually have good schools with high standards where as lower class areas have lower standards. For example, if you have a high GPA in a low income neighborhood high school, you will most likely be chosen over a student from a high income neighborhood high school.

My question to all of you is why is it the end of the world if you do not go to a top tier school? I was a lazy ass in High School, and as a result I received a 3.0 GPA. I decided to go to a community collage to get my general education done. After that I will transfer up to a top tier collage to get the rest of my bachelors. Heck, a lot of people do this because it's cheaper. I pay like 14 bucks a credit here at my community collage. Everything is all ready set up for me to transfer to a top UC art collage in California.

Options are boundless. Even a person who graduated with a GPA of 2.6 could still go to a good collage if they just get the GE's done in a community collage. When you transfer the only thing they look at is your collage transcript. So yha, High School is sorta pointless. The only thing it will do for you is possibly save you a little time and money.

I go to a school where all we talk about is college anymore (I'm a Senior)...We're supposed to be one of the best high schools in the nation and definitely the best in the city...The fact is that this year I'm applying to college, but it will be the biggest applicant pool that has ever been seen because of the baby boom. It's true. You can have a 4.0 average, AP classes, and an excellent SAT score, but there is no guarantee that you will get into the college of your choice. There will always be someone just as excellent as you and what is it that makes colleges pick you? You have to make yourself stand out! You have to make yourself unique...You can do this through your extra curriculars and your essays (for apps).

The truth is that I have the excellent extra curriculars. I got a 2070 on my SATs, but at my school the average is a 2100. My grades (90 average) don't meet the standards for an Ivy League, but I'm ok with that. There are a lot of people who think that Ivy is the only way to go, but there are so many other options out there and as long as you have an open mind and the ability to adjust, you can go anywhere and be happy.

Also...I want to add, that it is the last school you go to that really counts. So, if your planning on getting an MBA or going to med school or law school....Save some money and go to a cheap college and then go to an excellent school for your graduate degree...

Yea...being a minority... There is something I call minority priority. You don't have to do really well in school. You just have to be of a minority group, and you will get accepted.

How can AP classes are a total waste? It's either AP or PSEO that helps you get college credits without paying to take those classes in the future.
I saved money and my time by passing AP tests to gain college credits

I've been in AP for all of my high school years and I feel it's been a total waste. Even if you work your butt off, it doesn't mean you'll get into a college at all these days. As my teacher put it, it's a circle. If you have a 4.0 GPA, have this great resume, etc., but this other kid who has the exact same qualifications yet comes from an affluent family, (and say you're parent doesn't even know what an SAT is), they will pick the kid from an affluent family. I hate this corruption. Yah, life isn't fair, but still. I thought America was about opportunities? What kind of opportunities is this if we're keeping the poor, poor, and the rich, rich?
College is the base to success (most of the time). And if you corrupt the base, what's the point of those with a poorer background to try? I don't know if it's true, but it seems so with the kind of college reps and student's I've been around.
Anyone else think college is corrupted some way?
(please don't post if you're going to say something incredibly arrogant like "oh whatever, cry me a river" and crap. go get a life. I want to keep this serious.)

wow thats bull crap i think rock paper scissors is more fair than what u got

You know what, colleges really dont count nowaday, just find a career with licenses, go to a public college, then take some average graduate college, and get your license.
There really isnt any point in going to the best college, if two person are reaching for the same career with license, and one work harder than the other for it, they'll both end up with the same salary.

My cousin got 4.0 and was validictorien of her class and got a complete 4 year scollership. Then when filling out for school she acsidently marcked summer semster instead of fall for when she would begin and found out she lost the whole thing bc of it . her parents had to pay out of pocket which was real hard and the university kept all the scollership money.

Edit What im saying is the hardest workers get skrewed sometimes. It was as if all she did was meaningliss.
