Starcraft set the high for all other RTS's with its balanced race selection. Every race had weaknesses and ways to deal with every other race and it's almost perfect balance in terms of power is still something that few of its successors (warcraft 3) and many other more modern RTS have failed to replicate. It helped creators see what a good balanced RTS should look like. |

It helped creators see what a good balanced RTS should look like. And warcraft 1 didn't do that? I'm not bashing the game. I'm just saying it didn't propel the RTS genre into a whole new level. If you look at Starcraft as something that revolutionize the RTS genre it failed to do that. It made up for it as you said in its races. It also made up for it with its superb storyline and great online play. Many RTS games copy Starcraft b/c it has the basic fundamentals of what an RTS game is (Harvesting, building, army management etc.) |

I really don't get it at all well the big deal with them is that you have to actually use your brain in order to win, you cant just go in the front door all the time and expect to win, use some tactics, and thats whats fun.. well to me it is :-/ |

Anyone been playing Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts? The system of competitive play online is balanced similar to StarCraft, so anyone who enjoys SC should give CoH a try.

Starcraft is the best RTS game to date. All three of the races are perfectly balanced and have completely different and innovative strategies. Starcraft2 is sure to take complete control over the RTS genre for a long long time.

My personally favorite is Warhammer series. Closer to my style (dark and brutal).
Company of Heroes made you think more strategically (cover actually helps from time to time). All the little details that made the difference are there (I DON'T WORK AT THQ OR HAVE ANY RELATION WITH THE COMPANY ITSELF!!!). So my choice is Starcraft. Great story, really balanced units and tactical thinking.THE END.(All hail Selphie!!!) |
