Summary

Oomae Haruko is a responsible and capable Haken, or Temp Worker, who earns 3,000 yen (about $25.46) an hour and can multi-task office work to the point of being superhuman.

She, however, never cracks a smile, never minces her words and leaves the office at 6PM on the dot. And when her three month contract is finished, she disappears for three more months only to return and begin again with a new post.

Every encounter with her leaves one feeling awed by her amazing and numerous skills, but also feeling as if she has something painful to hide.

Satonaka Kensuke has just been promoted as head of S&F's newly formed Marketing Division. Saddled with subordinates ranging from post-retirees to inexperienced rookies, Satonaka is struggling to raise his division off the ground and prove himself and his subordinates worthy of the responsibility.

Everything changes when Oomae begins her latest contract, introducing her to the rag-tag employees of S&F's Marketing Division and she finds herself doing more work than she's ever done for a company before.

Will her new post reveal her secret, the reason for her cynical attitude, and renew her ability to connect with others?

Editorial note

Haken no Hinkaku is a timely drama that examines the differences in the treatment of Temp Workers and regular employees, and the ways to overcome frictions in interpersonal relationships.

The drama follows in the wake of an October report on labor conditions by the Japanese Labor Ministry, which showed that the proportion of regular employees to Temps had doubled compared to that of eight years ago, after a relaxation of regulations.

I have not finished it yet. Its pretty good. The lead actress is also in Unfair. I very good cop drama. The story is about a Temptress with a very secretive pass who is extremely organize and very, very stern to her other employees.

Are you kidding?! I absolutely adore this drama. Everything that Oomae-sanpei is trying to get each of them to realize about themselves is so accurate. To be honest, I operated much like Oomae-sanpei with my staff. Unfortunately, I wasn't a 3 month temp. So, my staff had to suffer my nudging and prodding them to be self-reliant and knowledgeable beyond their own little jobs. Ultimately, they were successful. Matter of fact, they were so successful that 1) I had the confidence to just check in with them from home whenever my child was sick and 2) other departments kept stealing them away from me by offering them promotions. (I had one manager/friend who flat out told me, "yeah, you train them and we'll give them promotions into our department".) I wish everyone would watch this show. And, especially college-age people need to learn and understand Oomae's perspective on work and ultimately, life. ... sorry for being long-winded.

Thanks for starting this thread, I came across the drama sometime back but didn't find the summary interesting enough to watch.

After looking at this thread I started on ep 1 and was laughing all the way till the end! Thanks for the recommendation, it was unexpectedly funny and good.

Light comedy. Revolves around the working atmosphere and colleague comradeship. The female lead has a very INTERESTING character and her relationships with her fellow haken and non-haken staffs makes her character even more interesting.
This drama is basically about the story about a haken (temporary worker) in Japan. [Temporary workers are cheap hires that company used to help out when short-handed. It's kind of how the retail stores hire seasonal employees, but the haken employees are not hired from the company but acquired through a haken agency. The contract for each haken is usually three months. Extensions are made if they still need the help, and sometimes a full time position is offered.] The female lead is supposedly SUPER haken... she has SO many certifications. She is very efficient, but doesn't like to stay past the contract. She always leave, and her employers are always sad to see her go.

I thought this movie was interesting.... but it is not suited for everyone's taste. If you only like the chick flick dramas, this drama is not for you. I can't even categorize this type of drama.
