It's quite true. I admit i like alot of them but soemtimes(most) of the time i just want to scream 'kick his ass'. Though i have read a few now that the heroines are kick ass. Which i enjoy.

Ther're lots of manga's out there with good strong storylines/heroines. Beast Master and Faster than a Kiss are two of my most favorites. They are also both shoujo's. But translation and chapter releases are so slow

well japanese girls are for the most part (not all, just a lot) are pushovers just like your hated heroines. There was a class of japanese kids that come to my school on an exchange and all the girls were as quite and meek as you could possibly get... youd ask them a question and theyd just stare at the ground and mumble their answer. Though im proud to say that 1 of the girls by the end of the their trip had become outgoing :)

Well, we kind of had the same thing at our school, and yes the girls were really quiet, but its not like they are usually like that. I made friends with one of the girls that exchanged for a short period of time to our school, and one of the main reasons you see them so shy and quiet is because they are in a foreign country in an unknown school, surrounded by strangers. Once they get a little more accustomed to people and the school, they are almost like normal girls, though it is true they are quieter then European or American girls. ~And on a side note the Japanese foreign exchange guys were really quiet as well.~

Yea but also when i think about the exchange program we have the only people that go are the super outgoing kids who have no problem meeting new people in a strange enviroment. I dont know about japanese exchange programs, but those kids were probably on the more outgoing side for japanese kids... not to generalize too much...

Not really, but i cant help it. Guys in shoujos are too HOT for me to resist peeking into the story. The heroines are my problem.

But sometimes there're no new updates on the ones i "really like" so i read whatever is available. Most of them are oneshots thats why i always stumble into one...

girls in them r either, reallly loud rude and different, or antisocial and quiet that need a guy so help them, or a weak ditz, and anyone with a flaw. lol but the guys r always perfect. haha that's why most ppl read it tho, cuz it seems like a fairy tale and they guys r hot

I have read lots of Shoujo Manga's and noticed that girls are portrayed as weak, vulnerable and somehow lacks even common sense (Stupid!). I really hate it, they treat girls like objects, like a doll a guy can use and abuse whichever way they want and the girls still end up falling for them vice versa. But Im getting so tired of this kind of plot.

Im hoping that it would change, although there are a few shoujo's with strong heroines you can only count them within your hands fingers. Im just saying that in some scenes they could've either fought back, call for help, find an ally or reject guys but no, they just lay there like a dying fish out of water. We can do more than that right girls?

I dont want to offend any readers who enjoy reading this kind of plot. Dont get me wrong, I still read Shoujo's till now...with a little sour face and disappointment. So, my fellow ladies what do you think? Im sure the guys enjoy parts where they overpower helpless girls...its their nature. lol JK Girl power!

If the girls were independent, then they don't need a romantic hero to save them. Though I do find it funny that this drama crap meant for girls even portrays girls that way. God its intense being a man.

I only read the Shojo with girls who have a brain or (there's an 'or' because in Itazura Na Kiss she's supposed to be stupid, but she not like brain dead or anything) they must have a likable personality. Because yeah we want girls to be independant, but we don't want them to not need the boys either or else it wouldn't be shojo. How can you have romance if the girl doesn't even need the guy in the first place?

Hm.... I always thought that the girl was always portrayed as outspoken, but slow and clumsy. and somehow that's always why the guy falls for her... cause she likes how she voices her opinions openly.. and blablablah.. but it's getting annoying.

I don't know how it is in Japan, but maybe its a social trend there to like quiet well-behaved girls?
Sounds totally boring to me.

However, a popular (and totally overdone) storyline is for the nerdy, weird, clumsy girl (or guy) get the hottest guy (or girl) in the class.
Then all the real life nerdy/weird/clumsy girls and boys can go "WOW IF THEY CAN DO IT SO CAN I!?"

I agree. That's why shoujo isn't my favourite genre. So many of the heroines are similar and uninteresting, that I just don't care what happens to them.

The only shoujo that I like is Skip Beat! Kyoko Mogami is one hell of a character.
