"Shoujo Girl & Shoujo Boy meets Shoujo Bad Guy"
Behind all the flowering words, this is really what they're trying to say! lol

Sorry if its a little long... I want it to be short and straight-forward. Hope you enjoy reading this also. Thanks to all those who liked and quoted the first story...

YES!
Ouran is so funny...i love having the heroine being the steady one and the guys become the dramatic and sensitive one...And its one manga where the girls arent taken advantage of..
Hikari from Special A and Hina from Penguin Revolution are just what girls ought to be...
I'm really sick of girls being portrayed as weepy and stammering to confess their feelings for guys...
What has happened?
Should'nt it be the other way around?
And how come in Japan, the girls are the ones giving the guys chocolates?
I'm blur on that coz i thot that's the day guys give flowers to girls...

Feb-14 is the girls time to give out chocolates to the guys, while in Mar-14 which is called the "White Day" its the boys turn to give out to the girls. ...Thanks for bringing that up, it made me really wonder as to why White Day is not really shown in manga's,j-series's or anime's, its always the girls who do it.

And about the weepy&stammering confession scenes I totally agree! It should be the other way around. Coz guys can really be conceited if they know that the girl is head over heels for them (been there, done that lol). Sadly...this is where the Shoujo-Romances begin...

Sorry! I didn't understand what you meant.
I'm slow, you'll have to explain...
What should I know?

Ur in UK,London...and so are the Spice Girls(Girl power! lol Im not a fan,but they're ok.)...to add to that ur a girl...so am I...so we cant allow guys to treat us like Shoujo-girl-cliche's. Clear enough?

Shojo girls vary a lot, the cool/cold kind is my favourite, and there are also strong girls who are not very good at love but still counted as strong like Hikari from SA
the kinds of shojo girls don't juz have two categories like weak and strong....

My favorite too. Hikari for me is definitely in the "strong" category because she isnt manipulated by anyone and she retorts back.

What other categories then? Well theres the "JOSEI" category where definitely the girls kick ass but TOO MUCH kicking in my opinion. And somehow lacks in the "romance" department on the guys side of love as well. Its just that sometimes, some girls fall somewhere in between...example Tohru (Fruits Basket) & Yuki (Vampire Knight). They are kinda cliche for being too much of a worry wart, nice, sweet and everything but they still make sense and are bold "in a way"... its just that these two show their vulnerable-side(sense of justice are often overshadowed by fear) more while the other girls show more of their valiant-side(tears dont easily fall, retorts to threats). sorry if its a bit confusing for you.

To be honest, this is portrayed way too often. Or, sometimes, the authors/artists will make potentially strong girls, but they always have to stay out of the way and let the boy do the work because its his chance to shine. How stupid is that?

I really don't like Ouran for that reason alone. All the girls, minus Haruhi are fangirls and seem desperate bimbo's. It's just so annoying, because seriously, I'm sure there are girls who care a lot about boys and scream for the cute ones-- but there are more intelligent girls and it's scientifically proven that girls are more stable and moderate than their male counterparts. ¬_¬ But Haruhi is just boring in that show. She has the personality of a rock [my personal opinion].

On the other hand, I prefer Naruto-- yes- people might think Sakura is like a weakling... but that is her character AT FIRST. She gains strength later on, a very different kind of character. A girl who is intelligent (yay, finally) and also knows she is weak and goes about changing herself to gaining monster strength. I like many of the female characters in Naruto, mainly because they need to be strong.

Ah well, I'd love a shoujo heroine to actually... BE a strong girl. Sure, she can have her weak moments, but please don't cry in every chapter.

Well regarding Haruhi in Ouran, she's just indifferent coz there aren't any "lovey-dovey" or "doki-doki" moments "_yet_". But in the new chapters as she becomes aware of her feelings, then on it'll be her turn to shine! (I prolly think and hope so ) still like her though.

Not for kids...contains spoilers also...

Yup something like that, I'll just emphasize this then...

SHOUJO-CLICHE' = weakness, helplessness are always accentuated, easily manipulated, open for abuses, willingness to be used, gives in to anything, martyrs
GIRLS IN BETWEEN= vulnerability is often their highlight, minimum resistance but this resistance crumbles when loved one is threatened, sense of justice are often overshadowed by fear, always in denial
STRONG= valiant-side is their front, tears don't easily fall, retorts to threats, fights back, manages to work her way out of trouble, clueless when it comes to love (often common)

...I have another thread opposite to this one, its about manga titles with "strong and brave" heroines". Got a lot of great manga recommendations there. Its more fun to read with heroines like that, makes you want to be one! Shoujo-cliche's just makes me feel bad or weak being a girl...although its all mushy and does have its doki-doki moments.

The main reason why I don't read shoujo cuz just like you said scarlet_09112, they act retarded and vulnerable (most of them do) and whiny. I just feel like punching them in the face, cuz its probably the only thing that'll work to shut them up. Don't you ever feel the same? I try my best to avoid Shoujo becuz I know I'll be barfing in the end. Well, there are some good shoujo, mangas out there like Fruit Baskets, Ouran Host Club, Hana Yori Dango, Hana Kimi and others, I even watched the dramas for at least two of them and loved it, but still, I wanted to punch them in the face(yeah, I was drooling over the boys in the dramas! lol :P).

Being the little tomboy I am, I go for Shounen! (yay!) Well to me its more adventurous and not too mushy like some Shojo mangas that tend to be.

I think it's because it's suppose to be aimed for the girly girl type :\
