well japanese girls are for the most part (not all, just a lot) are pushovers just like your hated heroines. There was a class of japanese kids that come to my school on an exchange and all the girls were as quite and meek as you could possibly get... youd ask them a question and theyd just stare at the ground and mumble their answer. Though im proud to say that 1 of the girls by the end of the their trip had become outgoing :)

Lol, thats why the melencholy of haruhi is so amazing to them and such, because none of the girls are anything like that. Rofl. Japan has a different society/culture of course, which is slowly being chipped away by our evil western blob culture of doom, one day they will be the same... One day...

Maybe its just me, but I read shoujo manga not because I see a gender power play, but because many times the male and female character develop closer relationships to each other than most of mangas from other genres.

What about Nana?!!!
Nana has two female main characters and they're both strong in their own way. That's is a real shojo manga!!!

I agree with many.

Shoujo girls are often weak, naive, and 'innocent'. That's not all, almost all of them are Mary Sues that every guy falls for. Geez, I can understand one guy falling for her, but the whole neighborhood!?! That's not gonna happen. In real life, I mean.

... So anti-feminist. Arghh.

I'm also fed up with those kind of girls. I like reading manga but if the main character is so weak I don't feel like reading it anymore. Lately I have been starting to read a manga but then stopped because the main character makes me annoyed. Yoshiki Nakamura's Skip Beat and Tokyo Crazy Paradise are my favourite mangas because the main characters are strong girls. If you read them you can see that it can also be romantic even if the girl is strong. Kyoko and Tsukasa are the best! I'm also annoyed with guys that are jerks. Why do they have to be evil in the mangas? I think that Nakamura's mangas are good also because the guys are not jerks. Ren and Ryuji are great! Tsukushi in Hana Yori Dango is also quite strong and altought Domyouji is violent he is never violent towards her.

That's why I sometimes try not to read too much clichéd stories with typical female characters. -____-

haha yea x//x girls are portrayed horribly in shoujo mangas
but there are some good titles with girls becoming a strong heroine without the need of a male's strength behind them
not much of course.

I have read lots of Shoujo Manga's and noticed that girls are portrayed as weak, vulnerable and somehow lacks even common sense (Stupid!). I really hate it, they treat girls like objects, like a doll a guy can use and abuse whichever way they want and the girls still end up falling for them vice versa. But Im getting so tired of this kind of plot.

Im hoping that it would change, although there are a few shoujo's with strong heroines you can only count them within your hands fingers. Im just saying that in some scenes they could've either fought back, call for help, find an ally or reject guys but no, they just lay there like a dying fish out of water. We can do more than that right girls?

I dont want to offend any readers who enjoy reading this kind of plot. Dont get me wrong, I still read Shoujo's till now...with a little sour face and disappointment. So, my fellow ladies what do you think? Im sure the guys enjoy parts where they overpower helpless girls...its their nature. lol JK Girl power!

Yeah, In most Shojo manga girls are portrayed as fragile and unable to stand on their two on feet....for that syndome id'e recommend Skip Beat!....It's a great shojo story and the protagonist, Kyoko, breaks the female anime norm....

I know a lot of people would say that Akane from Ranma 1/2 or even Fae from CBB breaks that weak female identity, but this manga is all about her(Kyoko) trying to become independent as an individual..

The girls tend to be weak, certainly. Sometimes I start laughing at it. o_o I've seen them cry a lot, too.

I totally agree its so frustating i just wanna shout at them to get a bloody backbone, i hate it when their all weak and let guys walk all over them. Thats why Ouran high school is my favourite because Haruhi isn't the typical shoujo heroine.

Some girls are the weak type, but most of the ones I read about are the strong, tom-boyish type.
