i dont know i would have to say new ones mostly because old ones are tough to watch after watching a bunch of new ones in terms of the technollogy and the better the animation looks but i will agree all the new ones now are just taking the ideas of old ones its tough to come up with something orginal

i dont think it really matters cuz all I care about in anime is the plot.
cuz even if it was "new and improved" the plot might be boring and the same thing can happen to old anime.

I think old anime should be appreciated as they made the way for future anime that many of us watch today.

i like the old anime's story line. most of the old ones dont have unoriginal storylines. *cough*lucky star*cough* but the new animes have better drawings.classic is better than other things sometimes. so heres my answer.

old anime:good storyline
new anime:good drawings/art

Yea I know. The new anime have better drawings, but the classics are the originals. In general, most of the new stuff come out from the classics. I'll always love the classics

I'd say new anime. Cause the drawings and animations are better. For example, compare the character drawings of Yu Yu Hakusho with Bleach.

The newer stuff looks nicer, and sounds better etc. but said before some older anime paved the way for the newer ones, though I like new ones.

It looks like we'll have to establish different tiers of old here, since everyone seems to think the 90s are really old.

Each era of anime has a different style that can be broken down by decade:

70s: usually very surreal and colorful. Being the era of Lupin and Mazinger, series would usually consist of many almost unconnected stories, relying on certain characters to keep continuity (and these were some very interesting characters).

80s: colors are usually a bit more faded (and sometimes random), although the character design does look more proportional and the animation looks like it was honestly done the good ol' fashion way, frame-by-frame (and they actually bothered to animate fight scenes back then). Most 80s anime began using serialized stories (meaning there is only one over-arcing story for a series), which was introduced in the late 70s by the likes of Gundam and Rose of Versailles.

90s: colors look more defined and pretty, and big eyes and stretching mouths become more "in." While the art looks fantastic, the animation sometimes becomes lazy (ex: still frames and lines for fight scenes). OVAs (which were introduced in the late 80s), however, were an exception to the animation rule, as they often had higher budgets. The style of storytelling by this point would vary from series to series, and often depended on the length of the series.
