Finally i got 500 points to start a topic XD... I hope this topic is not a duplicate o_O

Hello! I just wondering what do you guys feel the most important thing in an animated film (or anime)? The story? The Character and Background (BG) design or the animation itself?

If you don't mind, include your reasons too =D

Here some thoughts:

1) Are you still going to see an anime/animated film even the storytelling is bad ?
2) What's the first thing you consider before watching an anime? The character is super cute/handsome or it has interesting story?
3) Many people said that the animation in an anime is kinda sloppy (no offense), but it has interesting story

and so on...

Thank you in advance

i always go for the animation and the character design first and most of all the plot...BG dont rlly interests me tht much

I always lyk cute girls and tries to watch them haha. Even if the story is crap..i would actually watch it nd yah sometimes character designs throws me off watching the series even that the story is interesting

Sorry for contradicting myself there

hmm.. I would go with the plot. A good example is Serial Experiments LAin... it tends to be quiet most of the time (it's like they didn't work on the music) but the storyline is great (but not for some, though)

I would go for an anime with an interesting story.
Of course, having a cute girl in it is a bonus! But nonetheless, storylines are what really attracts me to an anime.

I guess I'm one of those that get attracted to stories in anime (don't get those people who become obsessed with an anime just because of one character in it).

I think that the story matters more because an anime is really crappy if it has awsome animation but not plot whatsoever but on the other hand, if an anime doesn't have the best animation but an awsome plot, like xxxHolic.

it must be both!

some are attracted to how the animation looks like...

it will be much better if the plot quality is the same...

To me, both are very important. But I lean more towards character development, really. Anime and manga that demonstrate a theme through ACTION is very effective. To just say something is one thing, but to SHOW it is quite another. And also, people can learn more if they see a character they enjoy getting something out of their experience, rather than figuring it out themselves.

Character touches the heart. And something experienced with a great deal of emotion is better remembered. So there's a lot to be said about character.

Mind you, character can be useless if the story kills it. XD Luckily, that doesn't happen very often. lol

About the development of the character - The hero's journey. A good character must have a good story behind. It makes the character more appealing, but thats what I think XD...

If you guys interesting you might want to look up at The hero's journey - Joseph Campbell
