well if the story is rly good like in MGS or Legacy of Kain but otherwise gameplay

It depends on the genre of the game. To me story matter more in RPG-types while gameplay matters more in first-person shooter or versus-types.

Ive played crappy games for their story alone... So i suppose for me story is slightly more IMP. But gameplay is also rreally really crucial. I love FFX2 because of the job system they introduced... The story however wasnt really all that imp... (I missed quite a bit when my boss was playing in the store but that didnt keep me from getting excited when he found the berserker and samurai dress spheres).

But i know that these days a plot is like kryptonite to a gamer. The graphics need to be incredible (visual orgasms) and the gameplay needs to be simplistic (eg: God of war... yeah ive played all so far and its kind of fun but id never have picked them up if i didnt get the pirated copies for 100 baht or approximately 3 dollars apiece)

Graphics for me are the least important. As long as it doesnt hurt my eyes i still enjoy it.

Story for me, majority of the time. As i play a lot of rpg, the driving force for me is the plot

I would say both aswell BUT if i had to choose it'll have to be gameplay. Because there are games which lack a good story or no story but can also be good, whereas i haven't found a game which has a good story but bad gameplay and still good (eg.FF7 Dirge of Cereberus)

Depends on the genre. If it's mecha-themed and action-packed, first priority comes in gameplay. I'd rather just read a manga or get a bunch of anime series instead of messing with a digital book-like game though, like how Xenosaga II disappointed me after expecting so much from them because of how impressed I am with Xenosaga.

Definitely gameplay for me. Wats the point of a good story if the game isn't fun? O_o

mostly i play games because they are fun...if the story is good doesn't really make up for bad gameplay it only acts as fluff, the gameplay is the real deal

Story is more important but you still need good gameplay or you will just rush through the game for the story

Rpg's are the only genre that needs story to survive. Just look at nintendo games, we know mario and link is gonna save that princess but it'is sure as hell is funny to do it.

I think the Fun is more important...coz most RPG games have a lot of things repeated..( lvling up, kill fantasy monsters & save the world or kingdom from other nation) & same goes 4 FPS ( which u have only to kill other teams & score up)....

but why most ppl love to play these kind ...its just the fun that they have in it when u see ur player lvling up..^_^

i do believe that it has to be a balance of both. though i would like to admit that whenever a hear game that's advertised as, "best gameplay" or "gripping story" i'll check first if it'll live to what was advertised.

for example, Metal Gear Solid 2: it was advertised as having an 'improved gameplay' so what i did was that i checked the game if it did have an gameplay, which actually did (which is also i loved about the game). though i liked the story, it also has the most epic game cinematics i've ever played that actually gave me some zzz's on what should have been a no-sleep-'cause-i'm-playing weekend.

one of the best examples i can think of that balances both great story and great gameplay would be kingdom hearts. they were able to mix the best of both worlds here getting creative with the disney stories and gameplay from square enix games.
