I think Hydragen is the way to go. you get more power and the only byproduct is water you can drink right out on the exhaust. It can even be used to power electric cars. Im not real sure what the milage would be but its infinitely renewable cause its easy to make.

Yeah Hydrogen. It's the most abundent element in Earth and if you're ever thirsty you can justs tart up your car and put a cup under your exhaust. I also heard about air powered engines. Be pretty cool, plus the roads won't be so wet... I heard scientist are plannin on strappping on a small air pressurizer so you never have to stop to refuel too... we'll see how well that works for the cops...
