I feel that people should have the right to bear arms, but it's a right that should be strictly regulated. There is no reason for people to have assault rifles or even handguns.

dont be naive gents... Second amendment isnt about carrying AKs, m204s, and m9s. It clearly states that if this nation (US of A) is under total invasion, utter destruction or in the brink of downfall, every man and woman, civilan or enlisted, who pledge allegiance to the constitution has the right to bear arms to defend this nation. this is also why guns in some states are legal prior to gun licensing.

dont be fucking stupid. a gun is a neutral thing, a normal tool perhaps, if it falls into the wrong hands, it becomes a bad thing. everything is up to us.

I'd just like to make 2 points:
1. The gun cabinet. I believe this is a prerequisitive in England? Not sure. The guns are to be LOCKED in a cabinet when not in use, so they will not fall in the wrong hands. This is sensible policy, I am not sure it's law in the States, anyways most people here would know.
2. There is a limit to the calibre needed for a civilian (not police or army). You should never need more than a .22 I believe. If a situation arises, you are supposed to defend yourself, not kill the other party. Also, the accuracy would be lower for a higher calibre. You are supposed to wound and flee. Not blow away and call. As for anyone objecting that it won't work (some might): no. It won't veen always work to have a AK-47 either. There simply should be a limit.

second amendment was moreso instated during times of early 1800's war and such so you could protect ur home during times when there were militia and people who needed to own guns nowadays we have police and such. I think that the second amendment does more harm than good because people do more harm with guns than good (robbing, killing holding people against their will, ect.). You dont hear any good on the news about people who have guns. Just "Someone died because of road rage" or some stupid crap like that. People take things too far. anyone remeber amadu dialo? I think that is what people are capable of on their own.

There are many tools that can be used to wrongfully harm others, so guns should not be singled out for this reason. Besides, in cases of great emergency (disaster, criminal threats, tyranny), it is good to at least have the option of using one.

I can understand the other side of the issue, but I really do not think it is consistent, and giving up freedoms for safety eventually leads to excessively powerful government.
