I think people make history. How can we have history if there is no one around to record it? Haha. .I understand this is not the question you are asking.

Okay, I think great people make history because they are the actors. They act in such a way that history is made. The outcome could be either good (Einstein) or bad (Hitler), but either way, they made history.

Hmmm. . but when I think about it that way, both men (Einstein and Hitler) were influenced by history (the past). Perhaps the scientific revolution was what fueled Einsteins drive to write his theories. And World War One definitely had an impact on Hitler and his works. I think you can go either way on this topic.

just put it this way. its a chain.

the time and situations (aka history) allow the emergence of great people
this great people would in turn be a part and shape the next history

if Armstrong was born 10,000 BC, would he still reach the moon?
if Edison was born 2008, can he still make light bulbs?
if Washington was born where there was no war, will he be great?

but because they were born in the right time and situation, they had the opportunity to make history.

The History Channel has a program which sums up my thoughts entirely:

"Man, Moment, Machine".

Of course, if I may elaborate, people often rally around a leader because of an event or an event which a leader calls attention to. In order to rally people, you must give them a purpose; give them a strong enough purpose and you instill a sense of conviction in them. When you have that conviction in them, you could make them die for you.

All this, no doubt requires a lot of skill, charisma and ability.

if your our future we're history

history is the study of past events, events that occured because of some highly intelligent people trying to become our future

Shouldn't it be that people makes history and history makes people great? Well, I suppose you do have some great people who make great history.

Don't forget that stuff of legends and myths were probably about great people.

Situations reveal the kind of people,& great people can change situtions & make their own history!!
It's a dilemma,like the master & the slave dilemma!!!

I think it's a mix of both. History creates the problems that people want to fix. When people fix those problems, they make great history. It goes hand in hand.

Many great leaders started from a low station influenced and molded by the times. Chiang Kai Shek was taken under the wing of Sun Yat-Sen in the turbulent fractures of turn of the century China, his methods in the end could almost be termed as Fascist but he started as an idealist soldier genuinely seeking stablilty and dignity for his people. On the other hand Kim Il Sung sought the same for his people but embraced a different albeit godless ideology in his youth. They both had to have conviction to choose the path that guided their actions, these paths were formulated by great men before them in other words these men were the products of their time's situation, only differed on the ways they aproched their struggles. As Isaac Newton said "I merely stood on the shoulders of giants".

In short history makes a man but a man in turns shapes history according to how their character and how history treats them as well as their relationship with the almighty God.
