not sure if anyone already posted, but with an interview with the creator, she said "D" for dolls, because
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide the exorcists do nothing but fight akuma basically till they die, being "puppets" of gods will, along with the akuma themselves. something like that at least that should be around what her response was, so i think the title shouldnt change, for any anime really, since when a response comes from someone who didnt make it it somehow annoys me. |

This title is just cool. I would not change it. But if D.Gray-man will continue, the cool new title would be D.Gray-man:Kanda's Drift.

If i didn't recall wrongly - the title was related to an English writer named Dorian Grey. Quoting from wikipedia's description of Earl of Millennium & Dorian Gray: "Hoshino says she based the Earl of Millennium off a legendary alchemist/preacher (most likely the Count of St Germain or Nicolas Flamel, though in many ways he also reminiscent of Dorian Gray, possibly referenced in "Dorian Grey man" and thus "D.Gray-Man", as adapted in the film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)" "Realising that one day his beauty will fade, Dorian cries out, wishing that the portrait Basil has painted of him would age rather than himself. Dorian's wish is fulfilled, subsequently plunging him into a series of debauched acts. The portrait serves as a reminder of the effect each act has upon his soul, with each sin being displayed as a disfigurement of his form, or through a sign of aging." So do you see the link between the manga's akumas and Dorian Gray? hope that answers your qns. =D the forum link below has a similar topic with their own interpretion of the manga name. link: http://mangahelpers.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-882.html Dorian Gray is the name of a novel by an English writer named Oscar Wilde |
