I think that the message that the Catholic Church preaches is excellent. However, they can be extreme hypocrites. I disagree with their teachings on the following issues:
1. Homosexuality. There is nothing wrong with being gay, and there are too many homophobes in society today. It's a classic example of bigotry. The church has no right to decide someone's sexual orientation for them, and they should certainly let gays be married in the church.
2. Women becoming priests. According to my religion book, women can't become priests because there is a supernatural order that says so. That, quite frankly, is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. There is no sexist supernatural order, the sexism is coming straight from the church, which has an entirely male hierarchy. How surprising.
3. Sexism in general. Women should not be submissive to their husbands, marriage should be an equal relationship. I also think that women should not have to take their husband's last name.
4. The catholic church is stubbornly conservative. They need to realize that it is no longer the first century A.D. They need to be more accepting, and less bigoted. I'm not saying they should start from scratch, but they need to make a few changes. I also find it ironic that Jesus, one of the most well-known radicals of all time, is now the symbol of one of the most conservative institutions in existence today.

I'm a Catholic, but I agree with you that the Church needs to reform its sexist attitudes. There are people who are born gay or lesbian because it's hereditary. I just don't agree for a same-sex union to be called 'marriage' because the term is traditionally, and not just for the Catholics but for all religions, coined for the opposite-sex union. I think 'domestic partnership' is enough.

Women in the Church hierarchy should also play a greater role, like celebrating Mass and doing priestly duties. Maybe its about time for the Church to reserve the vow of celibacy only to the bishops and let the subordinate priests marry. This way, many people will want to serve God through priesthood. In our present time, there is a shortage of priests because the vow of celibacy repels young men to enter the vocation.

This is an example of a constructive criticism. People should also post in this forum this way not ranting hate phrases like 'the pope is the Anti-Christ', 'the Catholic Church is dark and evil', or 'bad faggot priests'.

It is my personal opinion that gay marriage should be considered equal to heterosexual marriage in most if not all ways. However, I respect your opinion and I understand why you believe that.

I also think that women should be considered equal to men in the church. And I completely agree about the priests being able to marry, but I think that should be extended to include all members of the church hierarchy.

And thank you, I try to give constructive criticism because ranting tends to get people nowhere.

I'm a Catholic.

But I must admit I don't really attend church these days.

Most of my peers don't really go to church unless it's Good Friday or Christmas Day.

I don't really think gay marriage n heterosexual marriage is equal. Remember GOD gave Adam eve, and not eve and john.

I don't believe in Genesis. It is my personal opinion that Adam and Eve never even existed. It's a nice story, but it simply is not realistic, nor is it physically possible. I question everything, because I believe that everything should be questioned, and I have not been able to come up with an explanation for it that is both feasible and probable. But if you do believe in Genesis, please answer the following questions:
1. Why are there two separate creation stories? As far as I know, only one universe was created, and I am much more inclined to believe the Big Bang theory.
2. If Eve was made out of Adam's rib, then she was made with his DNA. This is problematic because since their DNA was so similar, it would be akin to incest. And to make matters worse, their children would have been forced to commit incest, and same goes, more or less, for subsequent generations. This would mean that everyone would be inbred, and there would be a very high probability that we would all be genetically identical.

There are hypocrite Catholics, but not all. Just like there are hypocrite Evangelicals, Orthodox, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. Hypocrisy is a personal character. Do not stamp it to an entire religion.

No, Catholics do not worship Mary but intercedes a prayer to God through her. Intercession is something like this: The son of your boss is your best friend. Then you have a problem in the company, but you're thinking it's too big and shocking to tell to your boss, you'll want someone else closer to him to tell it. So you ask his son.

I'm a Catholic, but I personally say my prayers directly to God. We have our choice.

Mary is a saint, not in equal status with God. She has the special place of being a saint because she is the mother of Jesus. She is the instrument so that God became flesh. The pope recently named her Co-Redemptrix as with Jesus as the Redemptrix. Just like a star and the co-star in the movie. But this title does not give her a divine status. This title simply acknowledges her great role in Christ's saving mission in the world.

That necklace you're talking about is the Scapular. It originally represents the monk's habit. It's being promoted by the Carmelite order within the religion. That belief about wearing that necklace - 'Wear this habit (the Scapular) and you will never suffer eternal fire' - was a promise by Mary through her apparition to St. Simon Stock. Wearing the scapular symbolizes faith because you believed in the promise. It is not a ticket to heaven, but a guarantee not to suffer in hell forever.

But it's really up to God to judge the person according to the good works and how heavy the sin is. The one wearing the Scapular must believe in the promise by his good works and deeds, not wearing it for abuse. Remember that God's law is not very technical as human law is. Believe that His judgment is always fair and justified.

The Purgatory has not yet been proven if it really exists. Not even Heaven nor Hell. But every religion, even every person, has its own concept of how the spiritual realms are ordered. It might be as complex as elaborated by Dante Alighieri, or as simple as the 'shinigami' concepts we see in anime.

Catholics believe in Heaven, Hell, and the Purgatory. But things are not as simple as you said in your post. You're saying it as simple as talking about criminals deserving prison. But there are things like: how heavy the crime is; the corresponding penalties relative to a time frame; and the story behind why that person committed the crime. Purgatory is a concept by the Church for this 'temporary world where the sinful soul suffers but still has faith and goodness in the heart, and that hopes that once the soul is pure then it is deserving to go to heaven.' Hell is the place for the unrepentant soul - the ones who, like Lucifer and his minions, has rejected God forever.

How can you say that Catholics are against Jesus' doctrine, while we followed His essential doctrines about good, evil, and redemption through repentance? Purgatory is a place of purification for the sinful believer, for no one enters heaven unless he is pure.

It is not in the Bible, so other Christian denominations do not believe in it. We know that the other denominations believe in the Bible alone. But as I posted earlier, the Christian Bible is not a perfect compilation of everything in Christianity.

Im not a genius, so i wouldn't be able to answer some of your qns. but i will try to answer some i know.

first, i want to say about sex determination in our body. the sex chromosomes in our body determines our sex.
The pair of sex chromosomes in a female is XX, and the pair of sex chromosomes in a male is XY. Since Eve was 'extracted' from Adam's rib, it is possible. Because the male has the X chromosome. But if it was the other way round, i would not believe too.

Second, in our body, the chromosomes have alleles. And yes, you are right, we are all quite genetically identical. we all have the same features, because we are homo sapiens. But what makes us different? Let's refer to Gregor Mendel's discovery. there are a lot of alleles in our chromosomes. Some are Homozygous, some are heterozygous. that causes the differences in our genotype, as it goes down the generations.

Thirdly, there are two seperate creation theories because people do not think alike, or do not believe in the adam and eve theory or the big bang theory. I, personally, believe that God created the world. because i simply can't believe the a big explosion would cause everything to fall in place, cause the earth to revolve around the sun, etc. There must be a creator.

Ok, i am not an arrogant person so i would listen to your opinion. Everyone has one. Thank you for helping me to revise my biology.
