I'm not Catholic, but I do believe there is a higher being out there that everyone worships in different forms. I've gone to Catholic school and they failed to brainwash me.

My bf's Catholic. And I think it's adorable that he prays every night before going to bed.

I'm so glad that I am not the only Catholic that loves anime. Both anime and Catholicism rule!

How do they try to brainwash you?

OK sub-question for the Catholics -- what's the general reaction to anime like Chrono Crusade or Blue Exorcist, with their...um...highly imaginative interpretations of the Church?

Alright Catholic issue... Letting women be priests, yay or nay?

I was actually thinking about this last Sunday while at church.
I think it would be all right (not to mention cool \m/) if we had priestesses.

I'm a Catholic too btw but I was exposed to Protestant teachings growing up.
I can say that I like the protestant teachings more but I don't have plans on converting into it.
I guess I enjoy both worlds.

I was til recently but not anymore.

All the nasty things the Church inflicted on this country are starting to come out of the woodwork now, and it is stomach-churningly vile.

Here's a little list of what they did (women got the worst of it, per usual)

-Child abuse, was widespread
-Young women were sent to magdalene laundries if they had a baby outside of marraige. the babies were breast- fed by the mother as she was hand-cuffed to a bed and she was never allowed to see it again
-They told doctors to saw through the pubic bone of un-wed women giving birth to partially disable them, make labour agony, prevent them ever enjoying sex and damaging their health for the rest of their lives. Just to 'teach them a lesson'.
-Demonising contraception
-Made life hard for catholic who dared attend the Protestant university, Trinity.
-Sending priests they knew were abusing kids to new parishes without informing locals of what they had done. Some were sent abroad, who knows what damage they did.

All that damage and they tried to cover it up and still have a patronising attitude towards victims. I'm done with it.

I have no ill-feelings towards people who choose to remain catholics though, as long as they don't try to deny or defend actions such as these.

I'm definitely Catholic. Joining the Church was the best decision I ever made.

I haven't seen Blue Exorcist yet, but I do have to admit there were a few things in Chrono Crusade that I found a little off-putting. I mean, fan service of nuns? Really? That's...that's just wrong. And sacrilegious. But there's not much reason to overreact and get upset or outraged about any of it. It would be silly to be overly offended by a show where nuns fight demons with guns instead of rosaries and prayer. It's not meant to be taken seriously. Chrono Crusade was okay.

That's pretty much true. Divorce isn't allowed. But some marriages considered valid by the state can be dissolved through annulment, and separations are allowed, but one cannot by the laws of the Church remarry in such a situation.

That being said, most so-called Catholics don't care about the laws of the Church.
