You too can appear to be reasonably intelligent
Posted 7/15/07
I spend a lot of time checking the things I write before I actually post it. That's because English is not my native language.

Sometimes when I'm actually finish or think that I'm sure my writing is decent enough to post, the actual forum thread is suddenly locked. " Oh crap," that's my initial thought. "Oh well. I'll just go back to the game section."

3. Never write while your angry . Wait a bit and cool off , go into your post with an even head .

This is really something that we all should keep in mind. I've been viewing the general forums recently and I've spotted a number of people who have the intellectual capacity to express himself/herself but lack the meaning to deliver it properly without indirectly flaming the person above him/her.

I'm sure this has been said before but like the others, I tend to read and understand the subject first, do a little research, and then send a reply. I also re-check what I've written making sure that I didn't make too many typos or has made too many biased statements. Oh and going straight to the point really gives the readers a break.

^ I was also surprised that the first post was written 3 months ago.

Bah, might as well show them how we reacted towards them rather than when we aren't with the feeling we got from.. the reaction. Show them your mad at their stupidity! GRRRR! >:3

Lol Hokie ;D I don't wanna get banned but I know what you mean. I've just read two recent threads that were heated up yesterday. I'm not going to name the people involved but what they wrote and how they wrote it really boiled my blood. Anyway, I tend to send a PM or two to people I'm irritated with rather than flame the whole forum and make a fool out of myself.

I think this is the best forum topic i've been into today.

Yeah, I agree. When i'm writing something in the computer (example in this post) i don't commit much errors but when i speak, i trip over my words too.

Ok , so some of us are known for making intelligent posts . Well thought out , well written , and hell , most of the time the syntax is great too.

But , one of the things i`ve noticed , is many people who write well , don't exactly seem like competent speakers when met in reality , myself for example . I can write 15 paragraphs on why the color white has satanic undertones , but get me out in the open , and i trip over my words , and say things that i regret or cant back up .

This is because , while in a purely text based , non-time reliant environ , we have time to collect , research , and edit our thoughts before posting, while in person , we are expected to defend our positions immediately, and often stumble over unfinished thoughts , or speak without the benefit of a cool head .

So, I thought , since we have all the time in the world to think out a post , that a few posting pointers could help some of those who seem to have problems formulating a legible post .

Y`all know who you are , if you have a pointer or a pet peeve about posting , this would be the thread to do it in .

here are a few .

1. Do a little bit of research on the subject before posting .
2. Try writing out your post in a word processing program first , and let it check for errors , then copy and paste .
3. Never write while your angry . Wait a bit and cool off , go into your post with an even head .

These are just a few , I`m sure there are people out there with great suggestions that can help even you appear to be reasonably intelligent .

You forgot 2 steps in how to appear "intelligent".
4. Make a post giving pointless advice on how to post in something that really doesn't matter.
5. Bump a pointless General DISCUSSION (not tutorial) thread.
