Okay, I searched through threads and there is a similar thread about the genocide in Darfur. This thread is different since I want to know not just your opinion but of your stand/side/position on how this crisis should be handled, whether you want the UN or the US or any other nation to help, or you don't care what happens to them, or that other nations shouldn't bother since it's not their problem.I am not emphasizing that US should help, but the UN more specifically.

I know for a fact that Iraq and Palestine are suffering from massive genocide as well, but since Darfur has more media coverage, well you get what I mean.

Some might not be fully informed about what is happening in Darfur, Sudan,so let me enlighten you and give a brief and detailed background. In 2003, a rebel group started to target Khartoum (government) saying that they favor the Arabs more than the Africans. In retaliation, the government ordered their militia (the Janjaweed (unsure if they ARE the militia), who believed that they needed a 'racial cleansing' (genocide)) to "restore peace." And since then 400,00 and more have been killed, 2.5 million have been displaced in the African nation of Sudan, 5000 and more people die every month; the refugee camps are unsafe. There is a scarcity of food and water. Women are raped and killed. Men and children are mutilated. Villages have been burned and their livestock have been stolen to prevent any 'source' of living. The US government has made this crisis official and reinstated that these killings are in fact considered as GENOCIDE. For more information, you could PM me and I'll gladly answer the best I can.

There's a lot of organizations in the US that petitions for the government to do something and help the people in Darfur. A lot of people are also against the idea of the US helping in this issue since there is a recession going on that is caused by the so-called 'War on Terror.'

My stand with this issue, is that the U.S should not be the only one to help, I am aware that there would be a lot of political and financial losses if other nations try and help. I believe the UN should think of this issue more seriously, if we manage to stop this crisis, then it is very possible we could stop other genocides that are happening as well.

I'm an activist in humanitarian issues, so I do feel strongly about this. But all opinions are welcome (even racist or inhumane comments), and I will try hard to understand your P.O.V.
( -.-")

P.S Some people might indicate a similar thread as mine, and I do know that this is similar to another so please try and understand, that the opinions you would give me would (positive or negative)support my humanitarian group since we are planning to put up an event and a petition on campus. The group I belong to is not a CR group but it is one of the most prominent organizations that promotes awareness for this issue (www.savedarfur.org).

Yes, that's the thread that I found similar to what I made as well. But the difference is, is that this thread will benefit my local SaveDarfur group that I belong to, it's not just for asking opinions....

Shouldnt this be in the extended discussion then?
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumcategory-16/Extended-Discussion.html

~ Also, please explain Darfur, not many people know about it.
~ I am not a humanitarian so basically my emotions about this are neutral, I am just lucky to not live in such place where a "genocide" (as the US claims) is occuring.
~ I deem that US thinks so much of other countries, didnt George Washington said that too much foreign relations is not good? And he is one of the best presidents of the US. Now, we are in Iraq and it is making our economy go down.

I was actually planning on putting it up there RATHER than here. But I believe I would garner more diverse opinions in the general forum, because in all honesty, more people do check the general forum rather than the extended one.

True, but also remember that enthusiasts of such topics in this forum is quite rare lately.
