If you go there, you'd better know Japanese.
Cause once they're out of highschool, they don't need to remember it anymore.
Most of them won't be able to say much to you in English, and they'll just be confused as fuck if you speak English to them.

i guess it's their educational system tht didnt emphasis too much on english. if not, i guess anyone can be bilingual easily.

If you mean in the country then no, most people do not know how to speak english. When I went to Japan I realised most Japanese people only know a few words. Hello, good, thank you and I love you. Although there are those who can make conversation or have studied or travelled overseas and can speak it.

If you mean if they're from Japan and living in another country, well I know some Japanese people who can speak perfectly good English and others who speak with difficulty or a heavy accent. It depends on the individual and their situation really (where they grew up, who they interact with etc.)

this is so not true...im in HK now and all i get are blank stares when i start speaking english. And i know they're just thinking "you're chinese...why is your mouth uttering the sounds of the gwai lo?"

Never met them before... but in Japan l think mostly dun really treasure English well. But if its a Japan in Singapore totally different he/she should know English really well

haha my canto blows...i was raised in Canada. The only things i can say properly are like...the different kinds of dim sum. I dont even consider myself whitewashed...more like bleached.
