Oh you young kids! Once you start living on your own you'll understand the merits of owning a gun. Hell, I had a guy break into my house through the kitchen window. I wouldn't have noticed it if my dog hadn't started barking. So I stood at the top of the stairs with my Remington 870 Express (that's a 12 gauge shotgun) shucked it, and said something of the effect of "Get out or I'll shoot!" and guess what he got out real quick.

The point is without that gun who knows what else could have been stolen or what threat he could have represented. Last time I checked I didn't have Naruto esque powers nor does anyone else. So how am I to defend my home? With a frying pan? No of course not, and attempting to remove all the guns is nonsense. All you have to do is look at the war on drugs and see how great the government is at controlling an illegal item or for that matter look at the Chicago homicide rate to see how effect banning guns is. In short banning guns will only affect lawful & responsible citizens not the people acting illegally.

"Criminals love gun control laws, because it makes their job easier."

Not sure who said it, but I remember seeing that somewhere. If you restrict guns from law-abiding citizens, that means that only criminals (and the police) have guns.

Yes, there can be some nut job who goes on a shooting spree unfortunately. But look at Anders Brevik, who shot up a lot of people in Norway, a country with strict gun control laws.

I don't know about you, but I prefer to be in an area where concealed-carry laws are around, so that if some random thug tries to rob a place, or tries to go on a shooting spree, they may have about 30 gun owners pointing right back at them.

Here's an example of what I mean by that:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/florida-man-71-shoots-alleged-robbers-internet-cafe/story?id=16800859#.UGGpAo1lRCg

What do you think would have happened had that elderly man not of had a gun on him with a concealed carry permit? Those two thugs would have robbed all of those people at best, and at worst, may have killed someone. Instead he got them running because he saw they were a threat to the people in the cafe and opened fire on them.

Yes, because if you disallow normal law abiding citizens from owning guns, who do you think will end up being the sole owners of guns? Criminals and the government. Now what do you think happens then if someone is going after one of our main constitutional laws there will eventually be more restrictions of freedom. Restricting things too much ends up in a tyrant government which eventually ends up in anarchy if the people get their way.

I would say yes.

But then again, it depends on where that person lives at.
Let say the United States; which is number one in the Top Ten Countries With Highest Reported Crime Rate, then I think you should own a gun. But you should have papers or license stating that you own a gun legally. Or something like that...

And maybe if let's say, there's a woman living with only her kids at home, and no males. I think it would be fair to have a gun hidden somewhere at the house, just in case. Especially if this woman lives at Cape Town, South Africa. Which is the number one most dangerous city in 2012.

So yeah, that's what I think. :\

Hard to say, since it creates more ways for people to acquire a gun illegally.
Overall I would have to say yes.

A gun legal owner knows if they use their gun they will be tracked. A lot of crime with legal guns occur because of poor gun safety, guns should be under lock in your house or with you, so that another person cannot take the gun.

Either way whenever we have guns or not, high crime rate in a country is due to poor government actions and decisions. If you are being robed and you defend yourself with anything a gun, a knife, and even punching the guy you can go to jail. I don't see the point in protecting a criminal, and worse of all if they are in jail they get food, shelter, and heating, while there are people out there starving and some homeless. My idea is that they should all be put on hard labor and criminals that have killed someone executed in a timely manner.

I own a gun, so what do you think?

As often mentioned as it is it deserves repeating, criminals do not care about gun laws. Mr.Gangster is not going to say "Well now that they changed the gun laws I better stop robbing people at gunpoint." I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but here in the US illegally acquiring a gun is hardly an epic challenge if you look hard enough.

in texas you can own a gun with no license and even shoot and kill someone if they are trespassing your property. but if you want to carry your gun with you at all times then you need a concealed handgun license. (even with a concealed license you cannot carry a gun inside a school, hospital or an establishment that sells alcoholic beverages ) btw you can carry a gun on your car with no license since your car can be considered your property (same as if it was your house) and as such you are allowed to carry one to protect yourself and your property. but even if you are allowed to own one with no license its smarter to get a license since to get it you need to learn about gun safety and other things. which are helpful. if you pull a gun on someone you better shoot to kill or they will take it from you and shoot you with it. so you need training and practice to own one if you don't or are not willing to put the time and effort you should not own or be allowed to own one. since it will be more dangerous for you.

All outlawing guns would do is make it so that only people who dont care about the law own one. And then law-abiding citzens will have no form of protection against these people.

Of course not!! Not having guns in a society reduces the criminality and deaths. Especially in the United-States where most people have guns and there are more shooting fatalities than their peers, like example Canada who are way more strict about guns. In 2009 there were 16 799 homicides in the US, 11 493 were caused by firearms and so I came to realize guns encourage people to commit violence. In America almost anyone could get his hands on a gun, that's whats dangerous about it. One thing that shocked me when I was in the US is the numbers of casualties I saw on tv, almost more than one per week...

Well that's my opinion, based on what I learned and lived. I may be wrong, if so tell me

Absolutely yes, people should be allowed to own guns. Guns do not only hurt people, they also deter others from using them to hurt people. Taking away a citizen's right to protect themselves just creates more potential victims. The criminals out there are not going to stop posessing firearms just because they can't legally get them anymore and the police can't be everywhere at once. Cars and trucks are just as dangerous as firearms and if I'm not mistaken, way more people die from these than from guns. How about cigarettes and alchohol? They kill people too, though not in as direct a way. The sad truth is that guns exist, legally and illegally. Citizens arming themselves is, in my opinion, an unfortunate but necessary evil.
