Should people be allowed to own baseball bats? Kitchen knives?... etc.

A kitchen knife isn't much threat from a clock tower. A bullied kid can't take out his whole high school and the jocks he hates with baseball bat.
sorry. Firearms occupy a different level of risk and threat. This argument doesn't carry any water.

So I assume you would not be scared if you were cornered by a psychopath wielding a kitchen knife, just because it doesn't occupy the same level of risk and threat?
What i meant was....
Should idiotic people be allowed to own any item wich can hurt or kill someone else?..... The dumbass shooting is the one who kills not the weapon.

So you're okay with bringing a knife to a gun fight?

Depends on the gun and the ability of the one who is aiming it, better a knife than my fists, i think, specially if that is the only way to protect myself...

Didn't ask if you prefered a knife to your fists. If you had your choice of weapons. Would you bring a knife to a gun fight?

If you mean "only armed with a freakin' knife while assault riffles are being pointed at me..." Nope because only a ninja or an idiot would do that...

We deserve our right to bear arms (US). This will only take away guns from good people and make us defenseless against criminals who will get guns regardless of the law because the law doesn't apply to them. Crap happens I get it, people can get guns easily and just kill people but it's not going to stop it's impossible to save everyone but I doubt it's going to stop even if guns are banned. It'll only make us more helpless if they are taken away.

It's funny any attempt at discussing gun control always get's taken to the assumption of a worst case scenario by pro-gun groups. As if any concession that some weapons really ARE too dangerous for the generall public to have willy nilly is automatically the first step in the road to total confiscation. or more accurately as if any discussion of gun control is automatically a discussion of total gun confiscation. This makes it as hard to find a middle ground as does the people who know nothing about firearms except that they don't like them and don't want anyone to have them.

...

I put it to the whole thread here.

Let's assume that It remains legal to arm and protect yourself.
And that it also remains legal to use firearms for hunting, pest control and other uses that don't involve putting holes in or threatening to put holes in other people.

Is there a limit to such armament?

-

Are privately owned Nukes okay?

How about privately owned crew served weapons like AA batteries, Artillery and AT guns?

What about Modern Armoured Fighting Vehicles with working armament. Hell what about WWII AFVs?

So are you just talk and want others to do your fighting for you like most brain dead Americans .

If the citizens of The United States of America are ever banned from gun use, so should the government officials. Afterall, they are merely citizens we citizens elected to represent us, not keep us in fear.

By that logic private citizens should be allowed to own B1 bombers with full loadouts, or have control of an atomic missile silo in their backyard.

I like that logic. I bet a missle silo is such a chick magnet. I might get misunderstood if i say i have a very large missle to a girl though.

There is a reason I hate politics. I read through the last few pages on this thread and noticed something, no one is really "wrong". The problem is there is no way to decide weather or not guns should be allowed, since both parties are presenting evidence that is more or less "true". When people start debating things like this in real life, I don't get involved, I know no one will win the argument. Which is another reason I dislike democracy, it's not whose right and who is wrong, it's what most people THINK is correct. When in reality, there is no "correct", just what aligns with your idea of "Correct"

In one sense, guns create fear, pain, and suffering. They are one of the most destructive things created by man, and if not one of the most unfair weapons created in the world. Notice when guns improved, and became more popular, sometime around the world wars? Both were probably some of the most destructive wars in history. Probably, they would have been better off never having been made.

In another sense, they are needed, since they HAVE already been made, people feel the need to own them. My dad got a gun for the sole purpose of defending himself if anyone comes at him with one. Hunters might need them, (Although i'm pretty sure there are alternative weapons for this), and I guess it's true that if the government turns, it would be needed, but isn't that just another attribution how guns are just destructive forces? To wipe out the government when it's ideals don't align with the majority, and the their idea of what is "Correct"

I probably got a bit off on a tangent here, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is no way to decide of people should be allowed to own guns, and be right.
