Yes I won one in a Raffle in Wisconsin where I live. Since then My girlfriend and I go to the shooting range and practice all the time. It's a very exciting hobby and we hurt nobody doing it.

Individuals require the capabilities to defend themselves from tyranny if they wish to do so.

I'm more of the opinion, that we shouldn't allow stupid worthless individuals to remain in our society. That means people on anti-depressants, mental disorders requiring medication.

They lack the will power and mental fortitude to be called an individual.

Guns are a tool you fool.

People will kill people till the end of time using what ever means is available.

The wars the us has been engaging in have had many less deaths involved than wars in the past.

Here in the US, Hell yes! Our founding fathers put the 2nd amendment in for a reason, to protect yourself, your family and your home. I'm licensed to carry and I do 24/7,unless I go someplace where you can't like a school. Just make sure that if you do carry that your properly trained.

I just saw this thread and read a few responses, so I am going to give a concise logical argument based on obvious facts:

Should people be allowed to own guns? YES.

The government can own guns, so why can't we? What makes them more qualified? NOTHING. They are people also, and in many cases they are less educated (ever talk to a cop about discrete mathematics? NOPE that's the homework I'm putting off right now.) and the people making the laws have shown how well they can govern. EXAMPLE: Social Security is GONE. Why? Because the people in charge misused and blew the funds that were put away to be safe for the people who paid into the system to take it. They lost money that is not theirs. I have have worked for 12 years(since I was 16) and I have paid into the system. Google "social security gone" the claim is that there isn't enough money coming in for what is going out, yet that's not how the system was designed.
Back on subject...

Let's look at the current situation with firearms:

1. Laws outlawing guns will not effect criminals. They are criminals because they do not follow laws.
Mexico has very strict gun control laws. If you do a light search on cartels murders, then you will realize very quickly that gun laws in Mexico have only taken guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. (look at pictures too: they speak much louder than words)

2. The idea that getting rid of them will lower crime. There is a word anti-gun people always use: "gun violence". It is a blurred stat that immediately ignores regular "violence". Britain's per capita murder rate hasn't really change at all even after guns are banned.
-Learn what stats mean, and learn how they can be skewed.

http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/ausguns.asp
That was a quick look up on google without the words "gun-violence".

TL;DR:
Over all crime rose after the gun BAN.
But there was less gun crime. lol.

3. What would you do with a gun? I have it so I will not be a victim. I'm not a small guy, and I am in great shape with a bit of martial arts training (just some self defense classes). I'm going to take your lunch money, but there's nothing I can do against a group of people to defend myself. I own a fire arm to defend myself. Nearly all legal gun owners are the same as you or me (it's not "I" in the direct object of a sentence).

Please educate yourself on the matter.

In conclusion, don't you a the least want to protect yourself? I personally do not like any laws at all that say a governing body can do anything at all that a hard working citizen cannot. Because in the end we are paying for them, so we really should tell them what to do, not the other way around. Do you tell your boss what to do when he gives you a pay check? NO.

PS
Simply Google "gun control facts" or myths.

From my experience, this myth of 'protecting yourself with a gun' is a distinctly American phenomenon. Most people around the world (including myself) are terribly confused by the American attachment to guns. (in case you haven't guessed it-no, they shouldn't. But perhaps someone was on witness protection/ could prove credible threat/was inside a regulated hunting range but would not be allowed to carry gun outside)

I personally prefer melee weapons, but I don't see any reason to deny most people their personal preferences for firearms. Rhetorically speaking, if I were to murder or threaten someone, my favoritism for melee would lead me to use something along the lines of a crowbar or knife. As such, I don't blame anyone who would rather not go anywhere near me and instead shoot me with a gun. Also, people like my younger sister don't stand a chance against anyone in close-quarters combat, so they need something like a small handgun to defend themselves against much stronger opponents. Before anyone asks: My sister is afflicted with spastic cerebral palsy of her lower extremities (spastic diplegia), and has poor upper body strength.

A gun is no different than any other object that might cause harm. And "allow", there is no "allow" here (USA), people have the right to own guns unless the constitution has been shredded.

I'm glad to be Australian.

FBI says that more people are killed by baseball bats than by firearms. So maybe we should ban Baseball?

As a sword and gun collector I have many weapons in my house, and yet your less likely to die from me, than you would from some weaponless drunk at your local bar, or a 60+ year old driver.

I say people should be able to own guns. I mean it is our right. Also making it illegal doesn't stop anything, if it did people wouldn't kill others because that's illegal too. Taking away the right to own guns would only make it so the 'bad guys' have guns and the 'good guys' don't.

no.. not in a developed country anyway... we don't live in a barbarian society were people go around trying to kill one another anymore gun's is just a symbol to lack devlopment of mankind and it's understanding and harmony from one another!! it's an obstacle we are afraid and too foolish to give up (unless we are atacked by aliens or somthin lol) that just causes us suffering like warefare and stuff -_-... maybe it is only necessary in hunting deer because we fked up the enviroment in some places so much witht eh current food chain deer become so overpopulated they pollute things... but seriously we are not barbarians... sure we can kill with baseball bats and other itmes but gun's are different.. guns were designed to kill not play a game... remember that

I believe that everyone has the right do whatever they want, as long as they do not infringe on another's rights. Including owning guns.

I say yes you should. I mean, if a person will break the law to kill someone with a gun then whats preventing them from just getting a gun and carrying it? Preventing people from owning or carrying guns only prevents people from being able to protect themselves when another decides to do the worst. If all guns were banned then it would just move onto, say, home made guns which being in america is easy to do.

Say I wanted to kill someone, but oh shucks there's a law preventing me from owning a gun. Guess I won't kill anyone now teehee :P
Like hell thats how it would go down, I would freaking make a gun, I'd make a little explosive, I would just get a gun through unofficial means, I'd still kill that son of a bitch if I still wanted to. We have laws against murder, that doesn't stop everyone does it? So how would a law against guns do any more? Look at the Prohibition, it outlawed alcohol, if anything that law only made alcohol more prevalent. The prohibition didn't stop shit. While we're at it lets just ban cars. So suckers kill more people than guns do.
