I am not sure you understand what licensing is. It doesn't really have anything to do with how old a series is or if it's still airing in Japan.

Besides, it's not as if Sailor Moon was licensed recently, if you're talking about the fact that it was just removed from crunchyroll. Think about when you were a kid and you watched it on TV those many years ago. In order for that to happen, it had to be licensed.

you did not make any sense whatsoever. i'm not too sure if you know what licensing is.

TheRae: Well just to stay on the same series, Sailor Moon was licensed for the English language by DiC Entertainment, the first 72 eps at least. Pioneer Entertainment had rights to produce region 1 DVDs and VHS of Sailor Moon S, SuperS and the movies. ADV released Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R English dubs on VHS. Sailor Stars was left unlicensed for the English audience, that may be what changed recently. Also since 2004 most of the series licenses had expired and not been renewed, hence you do not see any Sailor Moon broadcast in the States anymore. Licensed content is not the same as a copyright, they do expire in a given time, usually pretty short compared to a copyright. It could be that they have had their licenses renewed which would be another possibility for why they were removed from CR.

purplepeach: For you to watch it on tv in your region, yes it has to be licensed, it is illegal to broadcast unlicensed material, you do not have permission to use. Same goes for online streams, and downloads of unlicensed content, even if your region does not have a licensor, it is still illegal, it is just hard to prosecute across country boarders on the issue, so most of the time it is ignored. But it does not mean it is legal, it is just playing on a very thin line of legalities. Why CR pulled it, they may have got a lovely letter from the main copyright holder Toei Animation to remove it. In which case they choose to follow the order to remove it. *shrug*

Ryokucha: Yes, I did a little more research about it and found out that licenses do expire, which I hadn't known before.

It doesn't need to make sense. It's business and business has nothing to do with "making sense".

Quit whining, read this informative page ---http://wiki.crunchyroll.com/Licensing

And now pshaw.
