Most of what I want to say has already been illustrated, so I'll just summarize I guess. Tibet isn't exactly able enough to be independent from China. The idea of a theocracy is rather outdated and obsolete (I'm not saying it's entirely bad. It just isn't realistic in this current day and age). Yes, there are lots of terrible things the Tibetans are subjected to, but Tibet truly needs someone to guide it into the modern world and out of its over-the-top traditions.

How can they win over chinese government and army? GOD! PPL FROM US, YOU CAN HARDLY IMAGINE HOW IT IS TO LIVE IN COMMUNISTIC COUNTRY! I know that, cause my country was also like that, but still it is no comparison with chinese regime. Even chinese ppl suffer. For chinese government human means nothing. When there was a student's protest they've just killed them all!!! They do not respect any human laws.
About the history: Tibet had been independent before annexation.
Why Mongolia would claim for freedom? It is actually free

Oh my god, another brainwashed person from the West.

Tibetans DON'T want independence from China (how many times do I have to spell it out for media-brainwashed people?) Since you talk so much about freedom, I'd like to direct you to these articles:

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2008-04/18/content_6627418.htm
http://web.wenxuecity.com/BBSView.php?SubID=memory&MsgID=156543

Would you rather be treated as a non-human (under the old Tibet rule) or have at least the basic human right of living (China's current rule)? Let me elaborate further, shall I? When Tibet was a theocracy, serfs could be killed on the spot (like an animal) and the person who killed them would not be charged with a crime. At least under China's rule, the law states that killing anyone is a murder/homicide etc.

By the way, Tibet has been part of China since the 13th century: http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90001/90776/90785/6397593.html

The 6/4 incident might have been harsh of the government back then, but the students had clogged up the government's building, blocked important streets, and hygiene was horrible while they camped out there. I'll admit, the government was a bit rash in sending in tanks, but the students were at a fault too.

Please do research before stating a 'fact'.

What kind of person are you?!?! You say that it was ok just to kill those students because they were protesting?!?! Actually you're a total ignorant- you know nothing 'bout real life. I wish comunism was in america, so you could understand more. Your country is calm, you never experienced what it is like to live under someone (except native americans). In my country there were also protests but I can't imagine killing ppl for that. And you say it's ok!?!? God, I wish american government killed am. citizens, I wonder what would you say.

It was a part of china since XVI but it was still autonomic.

There are no basic human right for Tibetans (they have no right for high education, learning their language, reading their books, for medical care, some even have to work for chinese ppl for free even if they are starving) nor Chinese people. The whole word talks about it, other governments try to change it- there were many discusions that if they won't respect human laws there will be no olympic ni beijing. Are you deaf and blind or sth?!?!

And if you want to discuss about tibet, than listen to them and show me their articles, not chinese one!!!!!!!!

I never said it was right to kill students. I'm just saying that the students share some of the blame. And the American government does kill their own citizens, AND Iraqis (torture clips anyone?). I wouldn't care less about America, actually.

Dalai Lama's rule (written by an AMERICAN): http://revcom.us/a/firstvol/tibet/tibet5.htm

For all you 'Free Tibet' people, read the article above. Before China stepped in, Tibet was a feudal society (yes, think Medieval Europe). Serfs had no rights; they can be killed on the spot by an aristocrat and the aristocrat would not be arrested.

Oh god this pisses me off more than anything else about the hippie agenda, because it is so utterly stupid to think it's even a remote possibility. First off this is is NEVER going to happen. Ever. Deal with it. To understand why we have to look at a map of China

Do you see where Tibet is? It is the region of the Himalayan mountains. This is critical for China, as it is acts as a buffer to India, in much the same fashion as Xijang to the north of Tibet acts as a western buffer in general. China does know that in the past Muslim invaders have taken control of both these regions. Protecting this area is critical for China in order to protect the areas where their population is dense (the coast and part of central China). Most of China's economic growth is their as well. China wants to isolate this area. Consider the following.

1. China's northern border is protected by Mongolia, and to a lesser extent the Gobi dessert. Since they basically own southern Mongolia this land acts a little like an inland sea would. North all you have also to worry about is Russia, whose current political state is not conducive to any competition with China anyway.

2. China coastal regions itself is protected by missile silos, a good airforce, and a fair navy. You have some ground troops in there as well, but I don't think your gonna get close enough for it to matter anyway.

3. The weakest part of their border is the region we are discussing. Because of India it is also the one they most want to keep protected. If Tibet is allowed to be free, then what would stop Xijang (very different culturally and Muslim) from trying for the same thing? To protect their geographical isolation for political, and defense reasons these regions will NEVER be freed. China has masterfully isolated itself in a way which few nations can claim, and if you think they would give up this isolation you are a deluded fool with no understanding of world affairs.

Please hippies STFU, and GTFO.

Tibet will never be free because China is an economic and political powerhouse and the rest of the world would rather live comfotably rather than rock the boat. Me? I simply think it'd be economically impossible for Tibet to be free.

m a tibetan..nd i hope tht one day tibet will be free...even though it sounds impossible...but hey..even the impossible is possible sumtimes....if the chinese gov. doesnt want to free tibet, the least they could do is give us autonomy..in tibet, ppl r not even allowed to have a pic of his holiness the 14th dalai lama or speak of him....they get tortured in jail jus 4 tht..isnt tht ridiculous? nd china even holds the worlds youngest political prisoner...china captured his holiness the 11th panchen lama when he wus only 6 yrs old ..nd no one has heard of him since..sum ppl say tht he's dead but sum ppl think he might still be alive..but anyways yah...panchen lama is the one who determines who the nxt dalai lama is....soo after capturing the panchen lama the chinese gov. elected a new panchen lama...hope u guys know wat tht means...if the current dalai lama dies then the chinese gov. gets to choose the nxt dalai lama...nd now they're sending millions of chinese ppl into tibet nd kicking tibetans out...soo yah..those of u who think dat china is gud nd is doing wats "best" for tibet might wanna think twice nd get sum infos 1st...

I never was aware of the extent some people go to to free Tibet. It's not like Tibet is suffering (that much). Some countries probably just don't want to be free. And if Tibet was ever given that right, they have a long, long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world. And come on, they should be grateful that they are under China's wing, the Dalai Lama also agreed that in order for Tibet to fully modernize, the easiest way is by incorporating itself to the Republic of China. But are there really a lot of people protesting for Tibetan freedom? How weird... and unnecessary.

For God's sake!!!!!! Do you know what you are talking about?!?!!?!?!?!?! READ SOME, GO GET SOME INFORMATION, BEFORE YOU WRITE STH SO SILLY!!!!!!!!!!!Uh, I hate ppl like you!!!!!!!! Be grateful that they are under china's wing??!!?!?! What is that?!
You don't have even a little bit of knowledge about the situation there! They are killing Tibetans for nothing, they don't let them have a higher education, they don't let them speak their language, Tibetans have almost none medical help; They take their grounds away, they make them work for chinese ppl for nothing, although some tibetans can't even feed their families. They do not let them believe in what they want, they destroy their monasteries, they're killing monks, making those who live in celibat to get married. For having a photo of Dalajlama they put them into jail, torture them. They have no rights! And of coz chinese government hides it all, now they're even making fake actions.
And you say that this is ok??!?!?! You dumb girl! Think twice before you'll ever say sth like that again

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

..... maybe you should read a little more, too.
1. They're not killing Tibetans for nothing. They only kill the ones that VIOLENTLY protest.
2. Higher education? Yep, they do. I know some myself.
3. They don't let them speak their language? .... right... obviously you haven't heard how popular Tibetan songs are in China.
4. As for feeding their own families, I also know many Tibetans who are living perfectly fine. For example, there are plenty of Tibetan of part-Tibetan pop stars in mainland. One of them was VOTED to the top.
5. And if the monk-related things you said were true, then why are there still monks in Tibet? Shouldn't they all be gone?

I mean, Tibet did belong to the Tibetans. But now, it's impossible for Tibet to be "free" since there are way too many Hans there. My stance of Tibet is that it's like America. The Hans shouldn't have invaded Tibet, just like the Europeans shouldn't have invaded America. However, what's done is done and making Tibet free is as possible as kicking out all the non-native Americans and returning the land to native Americans.
